Hi guys...

I was wondering if anyone can tell me if I would benefit by buying a new graphic card?

Ive never had a problem with this but now that BF3 and CODMW3 are due out im wondering if it would make any difference..

Those will be the 2 newest games im getting and i've already got the last few COD's which i play occasionally..

Thanks for any info guys

Kingy

I went from a 275 to a 5850 and was pleased with difference especially the Dx11 effects

So any good Dx11 Card should do ! like a 6850 or 460 upwards depending on budget

I dont really know what to get... prob have about £150 to £200...... that would be including what I would be able to sell my card for...... I have no idea on what sort of money these ones are fetching

i think a gtx 560ti would be good. its quiet and significantly better than the gtx 275.

Does anyone else think that this would be ok as i've read on a seperate forum on here that you would need something with at least 2gb vram for Battlefield3 as it uses 1.5gb on the game?

Thanks guys

Hi there. I am also interested at the performance jump from 275GTX to 560Ti.
Do you guys know any direct comparison between those two at some site?

Doesn't look like theres a great deal of difference between the 2 looking at the comparisons...
Back to the drawing board for me

I wouldn't say there's not much difference - the 560ti is about 50% faster in that comparison, and that's compared to the 285GTX.

It also runs cooler, quieter and uses a bit less power.

I've found you have to wait a long time to be able to get double the frame rate without paying any more...

I went from:-

2004 - ATI 9800pro (about £150 back then I think)
2007 - Nvidia 8800GT (£165)
2010 - Nvidia GTX 460 (£180)

and the frame rate roughly doubled each time. But it took 3 years. To get the same improvement now I'd need a 580 which is still at least double what I paid for mine last year.

That's the problem: they compare it to the 285, so no certain conclusions can be extracted. Also i 'd like to see them compared to more games, maybe newer ones (Witcher 2?)

Witcher 2 really benefits from modern tech. I play a lot of games on my TV at lowres and it's still fine with an 8600GT for stuff like Deus Ex. I tried the Witcher 2 at low, and it was like 5fps.

ON my system, at 1680*1050 and with a dual core 6000+AMD, 275 can handle perfectly the low settings. Medium settings are unplayable though, and that's why i am considering 560Ti

They do have the 275 vs 285 on the 2010 charts and the difference is about 10%.

Surprised no mentions for a 6950 2gb, slightly better performance, more vram, and circa £200 (wait for specials, or check the MM, can be had for around £170-180).

It might be an idea to hold off until the final version of BF3 is released, as long as graphics drivers are updated too, and see how well everything performs, it may turn out a 560Ti out performs a 6950 at the resolution you intend to game at.

The GTX275 is a formidable card (I might be a little biased here since I use one :D). The only reason you would want to upgrade is to get DX11 so you'll need to weigh out the pros and cons on whether it is worth it for you.

For me I haven't upgraded it yet as it still plays all the games I throw at it on 1920 x 1080 res.

560Ti will run BF3 fine. Along with games to come after it.
If you want to play with super high ultra settings, then no.
If you want to play with good settings. Then yes, it will be fine.
If you want to run FRAPS and stuff, then you might have to lower the settings more.

Resolution?

If at 1366x768 I would hold on for the time being. At that res mine had coped with the BF3 Beta fine so far on high/medium settings.

If 1080p or above, I'd be looking to replace it if you want to enjoy the next raft of games at reasonable settings.

I plan to upgrade mine before the end of the year and will go 560Ti or 570, depending on priving at the time.
