First thing I'd like to say is a BIG "thank you" to OcUK for what must be the fastest RMA turnround possible! I just managed to catch the PO before it closes at 5:30 PM on Wednesday, OcUK receive it at 9:54AM next days and a new card is back in the post that same afternoon to me. I then receive the new card the following afternoon. That's what I call good service. Thanks again....

Not quite sure what was up with the card (memory or GPU I suppose) but massive graphical glitches (missing textures and finally flashing screen leading to lock ups). Finally it would not even get through one run of 3Dmark2001, or 3Dmark03/05 before problem occurred.

I read in a thread a while back about all the problems people "appeared" to be having with 7900's but then Gibbo posts that they had had no Galaxy cards RMA'd so far. Just my luck to prove him wrong. Always one duff apple in the basket I presume.

Though it has got me thinking how much this is a "real" problem with this incarnation of graphics card (or not). While I know there are always the odd failures (been working in IT 25+ years, so I should know) there do seem to be a lot of complaints about 7900's all over the WEB (GS's especially).

A couple of questions assuming OcUK don't mind?

1) If anyone who has this card would like to comment on It, I'd be quite interested to hear peoples comments (good, or bad).

2) Anyone know what length of warranty is on this card? I'm assuming only 12 months.

Thanks again OcUK for your speedy service.

PS. Going to order a few more bits tonight, so that I can build a back up PC. Did have a laptop, but some kind person reversed their car over it (don't ask!).

7900 series is major failure card. every single brand of card is effected even galaxy. its all to do with rushing out cards without sufficient testing etc. look at G80, it has also got failure cards but they managed to sort most of them out in a recall but who knows, in the future there could be loads of g80's dying after 5 months of use. only time will tell.

O'dear...

That doesn't exactly fill me with confidence. Maybe I should have got my money back and bought another make / model of card.

the only comment your gonna get from ocuk is: "7900gs is excellent value for money with shader model 3.0 support, 20 full dx9c compliant pipelines blah blah blah....etc etc"

never will anyone who sells the card openly admit that they are selling faulty goods.

but i tell you this. if you get a proper good working one that will never fail on you, then you WILL be a very happy camper. i was very happy with my 7900gs but it eventually died within 1 week. but for the few days it ran i was more happy with it than i am currently hppy with my x1900xt. the nvidia card just had a very nice overall feel to it, its drivers are just far more mature than what ati have.

thats just from personal experience though. if someone wanted to swap a 7900gt for my x1900xt i would like to do it. but the risk of getting a faulty card or a card turning out faulty at a later date just puts me off the whole idea.

the main reason i liked the nvidia card is because i have a machine setup now to game on a 32inch lcd tv. and the ati card just doesn;t seem to be able to work with custome resolutions properly without the use of powerstrip. and CCC is a load of crap but without it i can;t get custom profiles to work in games. and even if i have custom profiles setup they still bugger up half the time. my 7600gt and 7600gs never gave me any problems in these knid of situations.

all personal experience though.
