Hi

I have decided that the my Zafira replacement will be a Galaxy 1.8 Tdci. I am looking at one around 2007/2008 and will have around 80k mileage.

Having never purchased a diesel before I wanted to ask is 80k a concern on a Tdci? I plan on keeping it for a while so what kind of mileage do these engines last?

How long does the turbo usually last?

How reliable is this engine?

What should I be looking out for engine wise when looking at these?

It's all down to how well it's been maintained really. I'm not aware of any big issues on the 1.8s and if maintained well then a diesel engine should go on for ages. I've got an S-Max with a 2.0 TDCI engine and that's just coming up to 160k now. Still on its original turbo and injectors and still going strong. Hopefully someone can give more feedback specific to the 1.8 though.

But basically try to find one that's got some evidence of it having been looked after. I picked up my S-Max on about 140k miles but only went for it because it had receipts and stamps for various things from a Ford dealer.

My father had a 2008 2.0l from 45k until he sold it a few months ago at 120k. He had no problems with it and it only needed the usual consumables and servicing.
