Right tried installing a free gallery (v1 not 2) thing to run on website from http://gallery.menalto.com/ and I have asked in their forum but am inpactient!

Right so I've installed it got it running etc but whenever i add a photo be it via url or uploading via the gallery it just comes up with a empty box with a red x and one help please?

a) NOT uploaded properly ... http://www.theblackwells.org.uk/albums/album02/car.thumb.jpg .. this file does not exist on your site


b) it doesn't like way you've named the file

Hmm well i let it upload it itself so i dont know why it hasnt? Do i have to create my own thumbs then?

I did try gallery2 but ended up with this problem;

Looked at the FAQ for gallery2 but doesnt seem to help much. Managed to just set up the permissions and get the install running but when i get to stage 7 it says;

Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Unknown MySQL server host 'Photos' (1) in /home/blackwel/public_html/Gallery/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 366
Photos: Unknown MySQL server host 'Photos' (1)

Also at the top it says something about me creating a datatbase? A database of what? I thought this program did everything. Im vry confused please help!

So i gave up and tried G1 as it doesnt need a "database backend" so thought it might work
 
G2 works on MySQL so having Cpanel access is a must. Once you've setup (and your hosting company can sometimes help you) it's fairly straightforward to get going.

Its got;

PHP version 4.4.7
MySQL version 4.1.22-standard-log

Do i have to turn it on then or change settings or ?

Ahh just seen a create database thing in cpanel i take it that is something to do with it?
 
It's a little complicated for the at first is making a mySQL .. you have to create a database, create a user for the database, and then join the user to the database. Then you have to feed that info to G2 installation when it asks.

Have you got Fantastico on your Cpanel? it will be right down at the bottom.

Err i havent a clue? (edit : yes?)

However it kind of works now, except i can only upload photos one at a time and not in a batch?
