Game advice...which one?????

Afternoon guys,

With my new rig up and running (E6300, S3, 2Gig Ram, 256MB BFG 7600GT) I want to get back into some good gaming,

I have bough half-life 2 (massive fan of the first one back on my old dell!) but I cant register it online as the pc has no connection, yet. so I had a rummage around, and craked out SimCity4, Black & White and homeworld2. Ive got Need for Speed: most wanted, and a few managment sims. But what I really want is to get plumbed back into top end gaming...whats a good, popular FPS, is it still half life?

and also, can anyone suggest an updated version of "Elite" - I used to have this back in the day, and I loved it...

I used to be on quake III arena (that right?)

F.E.A.R is one I have heard of, can i assume that its a good one?

I will be connecting up with 8mb at home, hopfully before christmas..

Awesome FPS, the atmosphere of the game is just immense, may even make you poop yourself a little bit

are you a salesmen for FEAR?? ha ha, you have sold the game to me! :> I should go buy it. I run my pc up in a (very cold...which I hope will help OC'ing) attic, so it should add to the atmosphere.
