So i use this neat little app to squeeze a little more performance out my rig, but i would like a similar type of program where i can select in the options which apps i want to close down instead of manually ticking each one every time i go into gaming mode.

Is there such software

Never seen these work, plus Windows 7s memory management is ace so it shouldn't make any difference unless you've got Photoshop open or 3dMark running in the background!

QEMM-386 was the dogs !

Blimey, that brings back memories of the dark ages of DOS gaming. Ah, the joy of creating optimised boot disks just to get enough base memory to run a game and load the sound driver!

Back on-topic, I actually downloaded Game Booster yesterday to see if it makes a difference but got side-tracked (as usual). I must admit to being sceptical but I will give it a try once I get a framerate to reference in MW2.

You could always just create a batch file to close off all the services you don't want running and another one to re-enable them again once the game is closed.

Set up a gaming profile !!!.
Sorry but what the Hay !!!

I will probably do that when I do a clean install again, Win7 beta should give up soon so I won't have much option there.

I just did a quick test running a couple of MW2 Spec Ops levels and using Fraps to grab the framerate.

Normal Windows config: Min 39 Max 43 Avg 41.256
Game Booster config: Min 36 Max 37 Avg 36.902

I think you will agree these figures are a bit odd if there are more system resources available under GB. The second run through felt smooth enough and the FPS overlay from Fraps didn't appear lower while playing, so I will try a more thorough test later on.

they dont work, if anything they use more ram sitting in the system tray then they claim to free.

stopping the windows services also has minimal impact, if any.

they are a gimmik!

those ram ones used to work back in windows 98 when windows would use memory and not free it again once it was nolonger needed.

they are still around aswell even though windows itsnt stupid anymore

I use gamebooster when benching as it will usually give a few points more or shave a few hundredths of a second off a superpi run...but for actual gaming it's going to do basically nothing for performance.

I've used this for a while and on lower end systems (like mine :() it does help. Its particularly noticeable when you are JUST at the playable limit. My suggestion is to try it if your system isn't that new.
