Game character Gender - Your Preference?

Obviously most FPS's don't give you the choice. El macho mano only.
However many MMO's and RPG's let you choose.
Im a massive Oblivion fan and always play as a male character. Why? I guess because I am a man, love the shiny suits of armour and don't want to be a pansy girly!
However through out my endless forum trawling of al things Oblivion I've come across a vast amount of players that choose female characters.
there are tons of mods to improve body/face/hair textures etc. Extensive wardrobes, and needless to say a big element of swords and sourcery sexually themed fantasy.
I've checked out some characters and some are stunning.
I've never asked these people why they choose females and do the extensive "enhancing" mods reflect on their lifestyle/fantasies for fear of offending.

since we're Britts here and not offended so easily (unlike our sensitive American cousins-no offence intended :D ) I wanted to find out why men play females.

to be utterly truthfull i found some of the "save game" characters very appealing and fancy starting a new character purely to watch some saucy minx in not a lot running round :D

Opinions?

Yanks who can't get a Girlfriend because they are so big they can't get get through their front door create one for themselves TBH ;)

*Please note this is a generalisation and in no way infers that all US citizens are overweight losers. There is in fact evidence that a man living in Portsmouth Virginia weighs less than 18 stone :p

This is the internet. The internet, particularly MMORPGs, are mainly full of sex-starved nerds whose ultimate fantasy is to find a girl who likes playing the same game as them.

Choose a female character, the nerds give you free stuff.

In Fantasy/RPG games i mainly play a magic player normally a wizard/mage and i find that Female models just look better in that role than male especially in WoW i played a female human mage and im glad i did because male humans looked ridiculous in robes

LOL.

I always use Male tbh. Not sure why though.

A friend of mine has the theory that if you are going to be staring at the back of the character for that length of time, at least make it good to look at!

I always use male - I think it's just wrong to play a female when your a male... Just... just wrong :p
But my mate plays as a female - but his excuse is that when playing a female you can get lots of credits from other gullable guys - which by the way is totally true!

I have 10 characters on WoW and two of those are female Gnomes. I chose female for them because of there silly girly giggle that I can use after I kill somebody just to take the pee.

I'll play as either. I played a male character when I played Oblivion the first time, but I'd probably make a female character is I played it again. If I were to play something like WoW, I'd probably have a male character, at least as my main one. It would make it easier to roleplay.

Sex sells.

It's like any walk of life, if something's eye appealing you're going to give it a look.

I can't vouch for the MMO players though. I'm of the opinion that your online persona should be the same gender as your real life one.

So true! Though if you're RL female playing a cute looking female char, usually it's best to pretend your male IRL :P I joined a guild in Guildwars with a female char. I've never been nerd jumped by so many teenagers in my life! Worse than walking into a games/computer shop lol.

Usually male, I always thought if your male you pick male, if your female pick female.

Although in Tony hawks project 8, I used a male first time through, but sometimes I change gender to female.

Always play male, probably because its my gender, never considered playing a female. Why do others? because of the nature of mmorpg's..

Many Men Online Role Playing Girls

It really depends on the game I guess, my first time playing oblivion I was the typical manly man with an axe, second time I played as a femal darkelf, just fitted better I guess.
I've found that trying both versions in a game presents a different way of playing it.
