I have just installed Trackmania Sunrise and when it finished it asked to restart to install the starforce copy protection.

I burned an image so i dont have to keep inserting the cd each time i want to play. After the restart i mounted the image but it still asks for the correct cd.

Now i own this game but see that its easier to just download a pre cracked version as I hate putting the cd/dvd in the drive each time i want to play a game

Its called copy protection for a reason, to stop people doing just that ;)

See this page, though it probably won't help much. Check out Game Jackal, it does what you want, and you don't even need to burn DVDs. You have to pay, though.

What does the game jackal do that a mounted ISO doesnt

It works :p

Wikipedia said:
Game Jackal works by establishing a game profile which is used to store all of the game's relevant data. To begin, an original copy of the game is needed to allow Game Jackal to successfully 'capture' the game for use later. If a first attempt at capturing a profile does not succeed, it may be performed again: anything else Game Jackal picks up will simply be added to the profile.

AFAIK copy protection works (at least with some copy protection systems) by having intentional errors on specific parts of the pressed disc that can't be reproduced using an ISO or reburning the image. Game Jackal keeps track of the errors and saves them to the game profile it creates. I could be massively wrong though.

This is one of the most voted reasons why games today are being pirated.

Anyways, Game Jackal should solve the issue.. If not, then you'll just have to keep inserting the disk everytime you want to play it :(

If it's causing that much trouble, then why not just insert the disc when you want to play? It's not like you'll be playing Frisbee with it and knackering it up is it.

There are sites that do hard disk cracks but you have to be careful which ones you use. I don't think I can link that sort of thing here can I?

Not sure... As technically speaking, It is legal to download them if you own the game itself... so will have to ask a mod.

NoCD cracks suit me just fine. Occasionally you'll get the anti-piracy features kicking in (the walk mode in Mirror's Edge was amusing). So long as your Google-Fu is strong, you'll have no problem finding the cracks and resolving your issues.

The other option is digital downloads from Steam and such.

I know where you're coming from though - I recently reinstalled GTAIV and hadn't gotten round to cracking it. The other day I found the disc on the floor beside the computer... little miss Cybergangster jr. had discovered something shiny in my DVD tray and had a wee chew. Lucky for me the disc still works, although that's seriously compromised the games trade in value :(

GTA4 has a totally legal created by Securom no DVD patch but you will need to look for it as they keep moving it around their website when newer patches come out for GTA4. Game still requires online activation though before this file will work. Saves wear and tear on the DVD and was created so people who had trouble reading the DVD could still play the game.

Problem solved, i just downloaded a version of trackmania sunrise without the starforce rubbish. Then used my legit key

Seems a bit daft I pay for a game then have to download a cracked image of it to make it work properly (or without it infecting my computer with starforce drivers at least)

Hope you turned seeding/uploading off, otherwise you've just admitted to file-sharing which happens to be illegal. Better yet, you admitted it on a rather public forum.

I dont seed, or upload. or use file sharing come to that

Game companies are more or less forcing people to use no cd fixes and as someone mentioned some more sensible ones like rockstar are making no cd fixes themselves for people to use. All companies should do this, it would make playing games a whole lot easier/legal

I took maddie.

Admitting to things doesn't mean you can be convicted of them.

And he didn't say he used torrents, he could have used newsgroups.
