My friend got Blazblue Calamity Trigger for the PC and it is just not letting him have any fun. When he launches it, the game window opens, white window, black window, crashes with the error message simply saying "Failed to initialise" in a small window. Searching produced some stuff related to GFWL but nothing linked directly to this game.

My friend runs this on his laptop and has enough power to run the game, an i5, 4GB of RAM and a Moblity Radeon 5470. He is running Windows 7 Home Premium and the specific laptop is this: Sony VAIO VPCEB1Z0E

I can run the game fine on my PC with a Q6600, 4GB of RAM, 5770 and W7 also.

A comparison of the launch logs between both computers are as so:

Mine:
Code:
BLAZBULE CT -- Build : Apr 30 2010 15:18:13.
 -- run : Tue Sep 21 17:39:38 2010
Begin initializaion.
Begin initialize application.
Begin load config.
Begin initialize credit.
Begin initialize renderer.
Initialize Renderer.
Begin initialize key.
Begin initialize network.
End initializaion.
His:
Code:
BLAZBULE CT -- Build : Apr 30 2010 15:18:13.
 -- run : Wed Sep 22 17:15:16 2010
Begin initializaion.
Begin initialize application.
Begin load config.
Begin initialize credit.
Begin initialize renderer.
Initialize Renderer.
CreateDevice function failed 8876086c.
Error in renderer initialization.
Failed to initialize.
Even went as far as to reformat the laptop an give it another shot, but the same problem is there. What is going on and why and how and etc?

Anyone have similar experiences with this or any other games, or know what any of this means?

I'll add that he can play L4D2 and Portal and other games fine.

I'll give him a heads up on that one, thanks. Mind giving a link to the search result? Trust if you need to.

I just googled "CreateDevice function failed 8876086c"

Plenty to read about the error, have fun :P

Ironically, this thread comes up as the first result :p

Thanks anywho, I'll get reading. Or at least, make him get reading.

Also it's odd how this game he can't run, yet other games like L4D2 and such work fine.

Sounds like the graphics card he has cannot cope with something needed for the game to run. He definitely has the most recent drivers and the most recent version of directX?

If so then he's probably out of luck. The card should support everything needed but a lot of times "should" isn't the same as "does".

Ah bugger. Well he's tried various driver versions. Just waiting on an email from the developers now. I'll post with any news in case it helps anyone.
