If your frames occasionally fall in a game, say for example like me I’m currently playing the new WWZ game and I’m pushing 90fps 99% of the time with the occasional dop to 80 but very occasionally frames dip to 70 perhaps, is that A cpu core or something similar maxing out on the processor? Or maybe juat the way the game is? I try to understand this, tends to happen when a swarm of zombies are very close and more things are happening closer to me.

The reason I ask is that this game is pretty well optimized in general and it is able to fully use the whole processor (I have seen it at 95% utilization) yet the dips will happen at a lower utilization which seems to me that it is just the way the game is.

My temps don't go higer than the odd spike to 73oC.

P.S. It is the new WWZ game.

Thank you :)

If something doesn't peek to 100% usage then the bottleneck could be memory bandwidth/latency related or it could just be a bottleneck in the game engine itself.

What are the specs of your PC and what resolution do you play at?

Thank you for your reply :)

I have an I74790 Non K and each cpu runs at a maximum of 3.8ghz, 16GB ram and a GTX1070-8GB.

The game uses just under 8gb of ram and up to 87% utilization of my GPU.

Windows 10 and DX12 but the game runs in DX11.

Recommended for the game:

  • OS: 64 bit Windows 10, DX11
  • CPU: Intel Core i7-3970 @ 3.50GHz
  • RAM: 16GB (the game uses up to 8gb ram).
  • Video card: GeForce GTX 960 / Radeon R9 280
  • HDD: 20GB
I tried recording but everything records at 60fps, checked individual CPU usage and the highest they get is 92% utilization so might just be a game engine issue.
