Game Freeze - Black Screen - Sound Loop - Reboot

Hi all,

There are various black screen threads running in many places but I thought I'd post here to see if anyone is aware of, or has experienced, my particular issue.
As posted in the subject: I can be playing any game and, with no regularity or trigger that I can define, the pc will black screen, after a few seconds a snippet of (distorted) sound will loop and the only option is to reset the PC.
This problem only occurs when I am playing graphically demanding games and happens *more* often if I reduce the settings of the card (i.e. set AA/AF, etc to lowest possible setting).
I've tried Omega drivers and ATI drivers. My temperatures are fine. Nvidia Nforce drivers are at latest levels as are gfx drivers.
Any thoughts please?

Had the same problem with x1950pro with gta sa. Was playing fine for awhile then suddenly i cant play more than 10 mins without it blackscreening and getting a repeating garbled sound. Had to reset.

I put it down to psu as at the mo my psu wasnt really up to the job of a x1950pro tho i thought it was when i bought it.

If it wasnt the psu then i duno.
 
Thanks for the quick responses. I'll see if I get any other replies but I'm guessing that I'll be upgrading the card at some point. Probably to something Nvidia based.
 
had a similar problem with a 6600gt, opend the case and the card was being kept nice and toatsy with a blanket of dust! cleaned it and away she went

open'er up and have a look
