i ahve the 9800 gtx card and i experiance freezing in almost all games im playing. first the screen freezes and then the sound starts to loop. i have alredy downloaded the latest drivers from nvidia.com and it still doesnt work. can some one plz help me!

Are you using vista because there is a problem on that with some update that causes a http event that freezes the system go into event viewer and see if you have an event id of 15016 i think it is if you have it seems your screwed for a bit as no solution has yet been found i have this now on my system and it annoys the hell out of me. This si the link for the online help section such as it is http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc727677.aspx proof that it isn't always down to hardware and psu's as that would be simple to fix.

As common as that erorr is (i've had it from day 1), it's not the be all and end all. It's all too easy to jump on the anti vista bandwagon.

I'd first run some stability tests (even if you are running everything at stock), as these will highlight any problem areas.

Prime95, memtest 86 and furmark would show up any problems with specific hardware.

Sweeny my system was rock solid stable until i got whatever update causes this so it isn't always a case of your system having something bad in it. As annoying as the error is it's not a big enough thing in itself to completely bin vista for i still love vista though obviously how long that stays my view will be down to MS sorting out this complete **** up.

I'd upgrade to XP and enjoy the extra fps (not to mention the reduced wear on my hard disc....whirr whirr click click....doing bill's business not yours, you're only renting this machine....whir whir click.....apparently 4GB is not enough for a stable desktop with vista, otherwise it would stop paging for 2 secs now and then).

Hmmm, seems to have turned into a Vista-bashing thread, rather than actually helping the OP with his problems.

This isn't a vista bashing thread so if thats one of your favourite pasttimes i am sure there are plenty of other threads where you can be useless. I have just reinstalled my vista to see if it removes the problem will post back if that does work though it's a hassle just to get rid of one problem.

Last time I had this it turned out to be a heat issue, I fitted a new cooler and the problem was instantly resolved.

Can't guarentee this would work for u though.

In my case it isn't a heat issue i have nice low twmps and a case with good airflow and until a couple of weeks ago was completely rock solid now i play a game lucky if i play for 10 minutes and it freezes :(. So far have installed rtm vista and installed the standalone version of sp1 soon as i get time will install the game where i had the problem but so far all is fine.

(jojjebros) Have you even bothered to check whether something has actually developed a fault? It isn't impossible for something to work fine, then not...

For exmaple: My GTX260 OCX had to be RMA'd as it had developed a fault very similar to yours, yet the pc was stable if graphics weren't involved and it would have you think it was the error id above causing it due to when the error event was being logged and the crashes.

I am not saying people should put all freezes\crashes down to this but it is a well documented problem that exists with vista. But in direct answer to you i installed xp and never had the problem at all i then used my old gfx card a 7800gtx on vista and same problem on this occasion if you have event id 15016 and your pc freezes it is vista not sure what else the OP has tried other then what he posted. I am hoping MS address this quickly so that it can be ruled out as a cause for any problems.
