i have a saphire 4870 512mb v/c,have had it for about 3 weeks.
Have a e6850 cpu @3.5ghz,2gb 6400 mem,GA-p35 dr3s mb,santa cruz v/c.
My problem is,when i play WOV(battle of britain sim game),i get several micro freezes during about 20 minutes of play.
I did have the 8.6 drivers loaded first, and i did have micro freezes,so i loaded the 8.10 drivers, and now its worse.

Am using edge detect 4x AA,16AF.
My card card temp is around the middle 30%,my 3 vddcs
temps are in the late 40s on idle.
I did put on the v/c an S1 rev 2 cooler,with a 120 fan on the top.
I thought this ATI 4870 card would be free from split second freezes,as i used to get it with my x1900xt card as well.
Would be very grateful for some help on this subject,as this is the only game i play, and the freezes are very annoying.
Thanks.

Drop the level of AA down, chances are its texture paging to the VRAM. Lowering the AA will reduce the amount of paging - and therefore the stuttering / pausing.

Or get a 1GB 4870, that might fix it too.

if you are using edge detect you are running 16x AA, you need to keep it on "box" then it will be the same as the application you are running. I only know this because I was caught out by the same thing until someone on this forum kindly pinted it out to me. One other thing to try if you are using XP is to use driver cleaner before installing new drivers this may also help.

Boogle.
I put the smoothvision AA down to 4x from 8x,and yes,it did cure the spit second freezing, and I used BOX,i will try it also on Edge detect.
i have Vsync on.
Adaptive AA is on quality,i dont know what the difference is between Adaptive AA,and Smoothvision AA?
