So I’ve had my PC for a few weeks now and of the five or so games I’ve played, they’ve all had quirks which is souring my opinion of PC gaming.

The Witcher 1 - Mostly stable but doesn’t come with any Vsync support. Locking the frame rate with RTSS causes weird horizontal lines in the middle of the screen and lag
The Witcher 2 - Always crashes on exit and sometimes in game (which seems to be a bug with too many save files)
BioShock 1 + 2 Remastered - This is renowned for being a buggy mess

So can somebody please recommend some games which are rock solid and have never crashed so I can try and cheer myself up a bit and see that Windows is a great platform and my PC isn’t duff.

For some idea of what I’ve got - BioShock trilogy, Batman Arkham trilogy, Assassin’s Creed games, Far Cry games, Dishonored trilogy, Doom, Wolfenstein trilogy, Tomb Raider games, Hitman games.

You are trying to run games over a decade old designed for completely different types of hardware/software so they will never run perfectly.

I hate to say this but crashes these days are kind of the norm for gaming, including even the newer consoles. In fact I would go out and say my ps4 crashes more than my pcs ever have.

Development is majorly about money now instead of making a fun experience that works well. I mean look at mass effect Andromeda for an example of this.

The only games on top of my head I can think of that didn't have major crashing issues for me are the new tomb raider games.

i'm play rise and its a crashathon for me. Even the loading screen it can crash my whole system. It will happen once every hour or two, or 3-4 times in 20 minutes

That sounds more like a system issue, you probably need to back off your OC if you're running one, or you have faulty memory or something.

4 different PC's in my house, all running completely different hardware, never had a crash in the TR games.

You make some good points there. One of the main reasons I bought a PC is to play titles from yesteryear that the Xbone/PS4 don’t run. I’ve completed everything I wanted to so far but I was expecting a smoother ride. :D I suppose it’s a minor miracle that some of these games run at all really.

95% of my PC issues are due that heap of rubbish feature MS added last year "Gameing Mode" your need to turn it off for each game, you can only dfo this by loading the game and turning it off for that game.

For example Forza 7 and BF1 unplayable for me to the point i cant even complete a lap of Forza whithout lock up and freezes. Turn off GameMode by pressing Windows key + g

Like is now bliss and problem free.

Actually I have just backed off a bit. Only seems to occur in TR games, must be pushing it too much with the hair :D

Some games just seem to hit the right spot to break a seemingly solid OC. I had the same issue with Division. All other games totally solid, Division would lock up within 5 mins every time. Knocked my OC back 25MHz and all was well again!

Have you tried enabling vsync via NVCP?

Can't recall having a problem with Witcher 1...and I hate tearing so would have remembered!

Yeah, that had no effect. RTSS was sort of my last resort.

I just reinstalled it...never finished it first time round (I rarely finish games), so will give it another bash with some mods.

There's no tearing at all, just like I remembered.

I have vsync on as default within NVCP and it's working OK here.

I remember now - I had Vsync on in nVidia control panel - there was no tearing but the frame rate was in the hundreds. That was a waste of GPU power so I had to limit the frame rate to 60 with RivaTuner Statistics Server and that caused lag and horrible tearing in the middle of the screen. But I put up with that rather than have the GPU going full throttle.

Something not right there then. Might need a driver reinstall.

Witcher 1 is the only game (so far) that hasn't obeyed nVidia's Vsync option.

As for games coded well, I've given BioShock Infinite a good playthrough this evening. Not a single problem. Now I can be happy again.
