I'm curious if there are any people here who do game modding or are a big fan of game mods? I think I'm going to try and mod Total War: Warhammer 3 as it is series I've played for years. But I'd love to hear from people who make mods for other games as well. The whole scene seems to have a great community.

What sources do you find most useful when it comes to modding? Obviously I've also thought about trying to mod Skyrim but I think Total War would be a better place for me to start.

Modding is something that I think I've always appreciated from the outside because I don't actually have the patience to bother with it half the time.
The only mods I tend to download these days are things that fix shoddy HDR.

Nexus 95% of the time.

Mods are the single best thing about gaming on PC imo. I don't think there's a single game where I don't use a mod or several to tweak things just how I like them.

I once had over 300 mods with Skyrim. Cyberpunk is huge with modding too, you can go just as crazy with that.

In terms of developing mods for a game it will depend game to game with the only commonality being if games use the same underlying engine - then you have games where the developer/publisher has released partial or full tools and source code to use or whether a game has to be almost entirely reverse engineered to make changes. You have to look for the community(ies) for any given game really - often on Discord these days.

Most games I play are modded, e.g. Stalker, Doom, Quake, Fallout, etc.

Some of the best experiences I've had in games are with mods.

I mod all the time, currently playing through FF9 with a bunch of mods and it's wonderful. They can enhance newer games and totally revitalise older or potentially buggy games that at their core are still great experiences.

I honestly thought you meant developing a new mod for Warhammer.
If you are have fun and let us know how you get on. If you just meant adding existing mods then 9 times out of 10 I'll use Nexus mod site.
In fact, I use them so often I keep my premium account with them all the time.

I am looking into making my own mods as I can already program but I'd need to learn Lua first as that is the language used for Total War: Warhammer 3.

But just playing around with other peoples mods will be fun as well.

Brill. I'd enjoy a separate post with your findings and attempts.

I've never done Lua either (I might have dabbled years ago) but feel free to ask questions in your post as I'm sure we'd all like to help.
