ok, so last night whilst downloading portal i thought i would give the fifa11 improved gameplay mod a bash, and to be honest, its made it a new game. everything is soo much more realistic and better to play.
so really i have 2 questions :
1. if someone can make a mod like this, why oh why did the devs not implement it in the first place
2. are there mods like this for most games

i love f1 2010 but find the AI is a bit naff, found a few mods to improve this but the links go nowhere :( and yesturday i was pointed to a mods site for crysis. so there are people out there, that are making games better for free. surely if these people can do it, the devs should really spend more time doing their job right?

1: They can't do everything and what one person likes doesn't mean another will. They need a final plan to stick to.
2: A lot of games do.

They could... but then what would be the point of that

Yes Bethesda i'm looking at your with your ****ty console UI's that you can't even be arsed to redesign to make it decent for a pc. And thats only the start...

but, well atleast from the fifa11 one, it makes the game a lot better, therefore more sales surely. EA Sports boast how their game is better than PES, yet that is personal preference. BUT...if the game had this mod implemented by EA Sports out of the box, then i can see fifa11 would be by far a more popular game than PES.

i know they have a plan to stick to, but surely their plan should be to make the game as best as they can? people these day want sims more than arcade style games, and fifa has always felt more arcady than pes, which is why pes has been a lot more popular over the last few titles. i just think its lazyness on the devs part.

also, does anyone know where i can get the F1 2010 AI mod?

The thing with Fifa and PES... they get released annually, without fail, not because they get rushed but because they know they can release a new game every season with the latest information from the football leagues and they don't really have to change anything else. People wills till buy them.

Its not like theres a great deal of choice available to you and if mods they didn't even have to spend money on encourage you to buy there particular game, they won't change that.

i guess. thats the one thing that bugs me with games like this. they do a winter transfers update, then come the new season they just launch a game, that is pretty much identical to the last one just to make you buy it. surely in this day in age with most people having reasonable broadband speeds they could just release DLC to implement the new features and transfers for a smaller fee.
seasonal games will always have a 12-18month lifespan, i get that, but the devs already know this. so why oh why can they not make sure for those 12-18months you get to play the best version of that game they could possibly make, as they know you will shell out for their new 'improved' version the following season, or is it just because they know if they sell the game at its full potential they wont have any 'new' features the following season?

Profit.

Would you still buy the next fifa game even if they didn't improve the gameplay? Safe in the knowledge that it'll do until such a time the mod comes out? Or if you bought it on console, would you never even know about said mod and buy the next release anyway?

The answer is probably yes. When it comes to annual releases like Fifa, they're in it for the money, not to give you the best possible game they can.

Realistically they could just offer updates to the league tables every year instead of releasing a new game that has no new features. But if the profit is less than releasing a new game they'll do that instead.

i guess. but it has really made me wonder what i have been missing. i have only used the fifa11 mod so far as i didnt really know they existed until yesturday, but have read a lot of people saying that they can and do improve AI in a lot of games, which for me is a win over console version as thats what i am used to.
the thing that gets me is finding mod sites, they seem to be pretty hard to come by, and the mods (well atleast the good ones) dont seem to stay uploaded for long.

*shrug* depends. I didn't reven realise Fifa could be modded, same with F12010.

http://www.moddb.com/mods - Seems to have a fairly big selection of games/mods. No idea how updated it is though.
Nexus is always a good place for Bethesda game mods.

Some host em independantly but i imagine most use big mod sites.

ok kool. did a bit of googling and most of the games i play a lot have some nice mods for them. soo glad i ditched the consoles for pc. consoles are great dont get me wrong, but they are limited for things like this.
hopefully if they are anything like the fifa11 mod, then it will be like playing a new game all over again :)

well i managed to track down the AI mod, aswell as the 2011 and some lighting/weather ones, and again, the game is awesome. its soo much harder to overtake, the computer cars spin out whilst fighting and there are a lot more crashes on the first corner. overall well pleased.
