Game of Thrones dvd is grainy

...anything I can do about the grain with the game of thrones dvd?

I'm using windows media player...

Try it with VLC or a different player all together and see if it's the same? If so take it back I guess.

With VLC it looks less grainy but looks blurry now.

I've noticed this with quite a few DVDs too. Infact some blu-rays as well in particular The Walking Dead and Supernatural. I always just assumed it was a filter effect?

Its this edition "the complete first and second season" and I'm watching the first episode.

I'm watching on a 23" 1080p monitor, would it be better if I watched it on a tv?

Not zoomed and 100% I assume, watching with VLC and haven't changed any settings.

I found the DVDs disappointingly low-res on my TV. I think streaming may have raised my expectations too high. :-)

The BR of 300 does the same and it works pretty well but strange that they would do it on TV shows.

Only if it's a SD tv really, the grain is present on the BD as well. Although grain will be less noticeable from further away.

Either way something 576p shouldn't be criticised when watching full screen 1080p inches away from the screen

I have noticed film grain in the blu ray version of GOT, the worst offender for me is Generation Kill, that is seriously grainy.

The Walking Dead is actual film grain you are looking at, not digital noise.

Also I generally find DVDs to be awful now.
