Just a heads up for all the game lovers out there. If you can get your feet to London for the exhibition I would heartily recommend it :)

http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/exhibitions/gameon/index.asp

1 October 2006 - 25 February 2007

Explore the history, technology and culture of computer games in this new special exhibition. From the PDP-1 of the 1960s to the latest consoles, Game On examines the technologies that have revolutionised the gaming world.
See the ten most influential consoles of all time, learn about the design process behind games such as Tomb Raider, investigate the relationship between films and gaming and play over 120 games including classics Space Invaders and Super Mario Brothers!

Prices: £8.50 adult, £6.50 child/concession.

I have been previously and it is a brilliant way to spend a few hours.
Even better to go with some like minded individuals and battle it out....or challenge a stranger to some Street Fighter 2!

Took the kids there last week and has a great time. Had to fight some kids off the Star Wars Arcade Game though, told them I played it first time round and got instant respect!! Some great titles there and most people were great about having a go on a game and moving on.

Highly recommended.

I was quite apathetic about this exhibition, but the idea of playing SFII against a stranger again, or sitting down to take on the might of the Empire once more (it is a sit-down machine, right?), fills me with happy nostalgia!
Do they have SF1, Robocop, TMNT, Mortal Kombat, Pit Fighter or King of Fighters by any chance?
MAME is great n'all, but there's nothing like going heads up with someone you've never met and giving them a pasting!

Now if only Dave Perry was there taking on all-comers, that'd be awesome!! :D

It is indeed a sit down one. I'm sure I saw Mortal Kombat in some form but can't remember about the others, it was all such a blur of fantastic games.

Had a look at the blurb, it would seem King of Fighters isn't there, nor is Katamari? *shrugs*
How odd, I know they have Garou Mark of the Wolves, but I think the KOF series would represent the SNK stuff far better, it was a landmark in gaming, being the first purist (and somewhat elitist) fighting game.
No excuse for missing out Katamari though, that's a heinous crime, it won't stop me from attending the exhibition though ;)
