Game pads and PC gaming

so i will be moving back into pc gaming very soon.

for driving games ect i wish to use a game pad, would i be ok to use a wired Xbox360 pad and just plug it into a USB port?
is the 360 pad compatable with all modern games that offer a game pad as a controller option ?

also if i wanted to could i use a pad for Fear3 ?
i know mouse an keyboard is better but i just wanted to know if i had a choice in this game and simular FPS games.
obviously if i was to play any fps online i would use mouse + keyboard.

yes, a wired xbox 360 controller is fully supported by most games on PC now with windows 7,

not sure about using it for fear 3 because i dont have it yet lol

In my opinion

-3rd person perspective games: driving, fighting, adventure, platform etc

Use gamepad

-1st person perspective: FPS

Use Keyboard + mouse

Most console ports (pretty much all games these days) support 360 pads. I have one (wireless) and its great.

Also what WingZero said is true for me too. I like to lie on my bed and play AC or Dirt with the pad but FPS and RTS games require sitting up at a desk with M+K.

The wired 360 pad will work fine with anything and even if it doesn't there is software that lets you force it.

If you really want wireless you can get a wireless receiver for the pack of the PC but is £30 or so.

No it isn't I got a 360 controller and PC wireless pack for £16.99.

So are there "some" games that dont support the 360 pad?
i guess if i bought a PC pad it would be more or less 100% fucntional with all the pad games?

Every modern game that you will want to use it with will be a-ok.

not specifically true, the likes of the battlefield series do not support using a pad to play, and some games similar require a piece of software to map the buttons, and most dont support a certain axis on the pad, whereas a lot of other games do indeed support a pad natively

it can be programed to mimic mouse clicks and movements.

I will be playing mostly offline FPS and driving games with it.

when i play battlefield 3 ect online then ofcourse i will use mouse + keyboard

im not saying you would want to, was just replying to a previous post, saying that a pad would work on EVERY modern game

£22-99 on ocuk for a wireless 360 pad and receiver but I have read the receivers have bad build quality and the fuse blows after a while best to stick to a wired pad.

Yeah I think RRP is £30, can't remember. The USB-wired pad is the way to go.

The Xbox pad is a PC pad. Don't let the name fool you. It's the most natively supported pad by a loooong way.

So can the Xbox pad with Xpadder. Any game that doesn't support it natively, you'll be able to get working using Xpadder quite simply.

Wait for a few responses to roll in, you'll see that when it comes to gamepads, there's only one sensible option.

Yeah, the pad is designed for Windows and the 360.

You'll be fine, buy it.
