Hello Guru's

A friend asked me to configure a pc for him.
The PC will be used for Gaming and he has around 950 quid to spend on it.
He likes overclocking.

I was thinking about speccing him a core i5 since this one can be overclocked really good according to reviews.

Maybe u guys can spec a nice rig for him (maybe with a SSD in it if that budget allows)

He needs:

CPU
GPU
Memory
Motherboard
CPU Cooler
Harddisk/SSD (Data and Boot)
Case

Personally i thought of a i5 750 with a Maximus III Gene for him cause he likes to visits LAN parties as often as me so a m-atx would be easy.
Heard that the MSI GD80 is also a good choice!

And is the difference between a Core i7 920 and i5 750 really noticeable when gaming?

Hope u can build something ncie for me :)

PS: He plays a lot of Counterstrike Source and GTA IV and planning on MW2

No offence to you but he's an idiot... He's actually buying MW2, pfft :p

Anyway, back on topic, i5 and i7 don't use the same socket, so the Maximus III Gene wouldn't fit both. I'd go i7 920 and If he's hell-bent on mATX I'd get a DFI Lanparty Jr, otherwise stick with a Gigabyte.

If he has to buy it now get a 5850, but it might be an idea to wait until Fermi comes out, it's only a month to wait so check the benchmarks and prices, because ATI are almost guaranteed to drop prices to match Fermi (and the GTX series and HD57xx series will drop as well, if HD58xx and Fermi are out of budget)

As for the CPU Cooler, go for the Corsair H50, and the Hard disk a 1Tb Samsung F3. SSDs I know nothing about, so you might want to seek someone else's advice. And the case I'd get a smallish ATX case (think Antec 300), as decent mATX cases are far and few between.

Are you sure that his PSU will be able to handle this? if not it migt be worth getting a Corsair HX 750
