Whats your fav?

Just been playing Neverwinter Nights 2 and some of the background music is quality and it got me thinking which other games there are where the sounds stood out in particular.

I'd say Timesplitters 2 beats it though, and for me has probably the best soundtrack for a game ive ever heard.

So whats yours?

Gran Turismo 1 had an awesome soundtrack.
As did GTA Vice City.
Quite liked Streets of Rage 2 :p
C&C Red Alert 1+2 had some awesome tunes.

But the indisputable winner is Unreal / UnrealTournament

Think this thread has been done a long time before, i'm a big fan of the max payne soundtrack, thought it complemented the atmosphere of the game well. Not played that for a while though

Ahh yes, good old GTA, yeah VC probably was the best out of them.

There are a ton of games that have quality soundtracks and it has been a business unto itself for a long while now, though arguably more on the console side and more with the anime based import games.

Of recent releases, I'd have to say that Gothic 3 has some fairly epic sounding pieces in it, and I agree that NWN2 isn't bad either, though it seems to be a bit more generic. Still compliments the story nicely.

san andreas ........ good

granturismo 1 and 3 ....... good

ssx3 .....good

vice city ....... best soundtrack evaRRRRRRRR :D love it !

GTA Vice City, Gran Turismo 2 had a nice one, apart from that annoying jazz that played when u were in the menu or buying stuff :p

another one for Vice City.

Scar Face game, cause the film sound track is good.

Golden Axe was very engrossing.

Mechwarrior 2: Mercenaries

Definitely MGS 1. Everything that came after it was also very good, but the original was the best.

MGS 1 and 2

Final Fantasy VIII, IX and X

Gran Turismo and Gran Turismo A-Spec

HL2 has some good music, but it is so short-lived.

SiriusB

'Men found their women scary, cos they were so big and hairy...'

The whole series in fact have the best soundtracks. Max Payne 1 + 2 also have excellent soundtracks.

Ah yes, good old Jeremy Soule... really cheesy tunes but I like them.

However, I feel the old Lucasarts adventure games have the best music by far - love the way you sometimes get the music changing interactively according to what you're doing in the game, like in Monkey Island 2 where extra rhythm tracks gradually get overlaid to the melody the deeper you go into the swamp and fade out if you change direction like you're fully controlling the music. You don't get that kind of brilliance nowadays with pre-recorded music, you could only do that back in the old MIDI and FM synthesis days...

Has to be Vice City, I love the 80s music and the talk radio stations are spot on.

The first Silent Hill would win for sound effects:

- The loud bells going off before the darkness came.
- Crying from the school corridors (even though no one was there)
- The cat trapped in the locker.
- The excellent theme tune.

my short list:

MGS
Halo
Burnout 3: takedown
RA2
all the mario bro's, kart and world games on the nes and snes :D - i mean who doesnt start humming to the original mario bro's theme tune when they hear it??
