Do you ever get this, you know what sort of game you want to play, only cant seem to find anything that fits the bill?

I want to play a game similar to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, but not EvE everyone bloody well recommends it, the combats great and all but not the bits between the combat, they're still slow and tedious.

Or something like Mechwarrior, only with spaceships that you can customise, not Mechs, and not first person, not in the mood for twitchy combat.

I guess you could call it a tactical space sim. Any suggestions?

Only really started getting into Nexus quite recently. What I've played so far is really good, it's a shame I never got into it before :(

Only thing that comes to mind for me is Bridge Commander...except the ship customisation is an SDK, but it remains my favourite themed space simulator I've installed on my machine.. It is quite old now though..

Only problem is someone might be put of by the Star Trek theme :p. That being said, the modding community has been one of the strongest I've ever seen and continues to be strong, so there are downloadable ships from all corners of science fiction...
But a lot of trek stuff as well XD

Copies are pretty rare now IIRC..

Nexus was an epic, epic, epic game, one of my favourites in recent years, sadly it's also a completely unique game so i've never found anything like it... Ever played Homeworld 1+2? They're about the only comparable games i can think of.

Completed Tachyon and played the Homeworlds to death, I'll have a looksie for Bridge Commander, but like you say, the Trek theme is already putting me off, really not a fan.

Nexus really is unique. :( Its on steam now too for a Fiver, go grab it if you've never played it before.

We're doomed to never play awesome space strategies again :(

[EDIT] Steam you say? Fiver you say? Sold! Lost my copy years ago and loved the storyline so would be great to replay it.
