This has been going on for some time now, but why on earth are most game trailers just CGI movies? I don’t understand, its not going to look like that in the game so why are you showing us that? I would prefer if they just showed us some actual gameplay movies than cgi clips. Lets take that new Halo Wars trailer, it showed nothing from the actual game. That’s not a game trailer, that’s just someone showing off their cgi skills.

Any thoughts?
 
I was thinking thw same thing this morning while watching the pgr4 trailer, whats the point? you see trailers of that quality all the time so how's that help you understands what the actual game is going to be like??
 
It is annoying, but I guess the games are too early in production to show real footage.

Or it looks really really bad, and they just use CGI to make it look good.

The Halo Wars trailer was great, but it didn't really tell you much about the style of the game.
 
They should spend more money/time on making the game better :p

But i guess it brings some image (though not ingame) to mind when the name is mentioned. :)

I thought the PGR was a pretty good video clip but it doesn't make me interested in the getting the game. But it wasnt a bad watch. lol

Yeah, the PGR4 trailer was the most pointless thing I have seen for a long time... Didn't tell me anything about the game (apart from it's a racing game :rolleyes: )
 
It's exactly how I feel, but I see why they do it also, as I think Sony were rather sneaky/clever with how they put trailers out in E3 last year, giving very little away about the console, only showing silly FMV things like MotorStorm and KillZone, which secured the naive fanboys in for another few years to draw their attention away from the Xbox 360.

It does seem a large waste of money these days, especially when the games they're making are fully capable of graphics to impress a buyer, even without them being gameplay, it's nice to see how well an engine can be used, look at any of the Metal Gear Solid games, they area all ingame, yet they give a massive effect of 'I WANT THAT' still.
 
All trailers are CGI I cant htink of many game play videos that are called trailers. Just looking on gamtrailers.com on the list they even liost them as gameplay videos and not trailers when they are vids of gameplay.

Yeh but didn't Sony say that KillZone was actual in game footage when it blatantly wasn't?

They worded it as a vision of what they want it to be like, or something like that anyway, but they certainly decieved people a bit.
 
I'm pretty sure the term 'teaser trailer' is being used more frequently now for these and tbh I don't mind them as long as it's clear what they are.

The PGR4, and Halo Wars ones are really just fancy annoucement teasers and as such worked pretty well. Where I do object is when I'm still seeing non-gameplay videos shortly before the release.
 
I agree, but it must work on some people showing a CG trailer, I was over at my cousin's a while ago, and he mentioned one of the FF games on his old PS2, and said it does have amazing graphics, I asked him to show me, and all he did was show the beggining intro movie? i didnt see any actual game graphics and he was still talking about how nice the graphics were and how its amazing such an old console can produce such wonders!???? needless to say i didnt even attempt to point out his error :)
 
isnt this one of the reasons E3 was getting canned? cos they spend so much money on these stupid trailers?
I dont mind if its built using the actual game engine like MGS ones are done but if its just CGI there is no point.
