As a total n00b to Nintendo, what items of equipment must I procure to be able to play the Gamecube's back catalogue on the Wii? I am with one of those big DVD rental sites so there are many to choose from... RE4 being one of the ones I look forward to grabbing.

Pretty sure you just need a joypad and a memory card. RE4 is great by the way, so is the remake of original RE.

You definetely need a mem card, i put in star wars and it wouldnt get past the screen saying "put in a memory card, noob", regardless of how many buttons i pressed

I've been playing Resident evil 4 today on me Wii. Using a Wavebird and a 251 memory card. All works fine! I never got round to playing RE4 on the cube so it's all new to me. :D

How does the slot loading drive cope with the GC's 8cm discs? Or does it come with an adaptor?

That I've seen on GameSpot. It just sucks them in. Quite how, I don't know but it just works!

Works the same as all other slot loading drives with 8cm discs, it just centres them into the middle as you put it in.

I have eighteen Gamecube games so I realy glad the Wii plays cube games. There's more classics on the cube than any other the other consoles shame 3rd party suppot sucked but then I bought it for the first party games anyway.

Another good thing is any footie fans can play Fifa07 on the Wii buy just buying the cube version. Like you all may know the Gamecube pad can be used to play VC games to but I had to by the classic controler as those retro games need a good Dpad and the cube one sucked.

I want one of these for the Snes games. :D

does anyone know if the GC games are region locked when playing on a Wii?

I have a US Windwaker and want to know if it'll work on a UK Wii before I trade in the GC.

thanks

Seeing as you needed that Freeloader jobbie for the GC, I would say they are region locked.

yeah I have an Action Replay for the GC to play imports, was just wondering if the Wii detects the region protection in the GC games. I'll probably end up keeping the GC anyway, doubt I'd get more than £25 if I traded it in.

Yeah they're still region locked, and apparently Freeloader still works, but I've not got it myself to confirm.

Over at AV forums there are reports that the UK Freeloader does not work. US one does for UK and Jap games but not the UK one for US and Jap games.
Go check it out to make sure.

where can you find those controllers?

or if its a competitor site whats the pad called exactly?

edit: ignore me, its : Hori GameCube controller @ £20 sweeet :D

PAL cube games never included 480p support, although the early PAL consoles did. US ones which are played on them & have 480p support will work. Assuming you can get the PAL wii to play them.
