Gamecube games on Wii

Has anybody tried this?

How do they look on HDTV with component cables?

Image Stretched or is it still a 4:3 with boarders?

Thanks

Looks better than GC with Composite (I tried Windwaker, which I thought looked REALLY bad on the GC over composite on my 26" LCD).

Over component on the Wii it looks better. It's stretched (well I'm guessing it's just sent as 640x480 over component and the screen just stretches it), so I just set it to 4:3 on the TV, and return it back to Wide when I switch back to the Wii. (haven't tried it on Auto though).

What games would you reccomend on the GC?

I liked Mario 64, Mario Kart, Goldeneye on the N64. Anything similar?

Super Mario Sunshine (the game I bought a GC for!)
Mario Kart Double Dash

Mario Kart 64 is being released for the VC in Japan in January... hope they release it over here too.

Got a pad today and picked up Mario sunshine and Zelda collection 2 for £20.

The Zelda collection is Zelda, Zelda 2, OoT and Majoras Mask. Considering these games will cost a total of 2200 Wii points on the Virtual console it is a bargain for £10.

Games look great via component but I thought you could save games on the Wii memory, alas you can not. Will have to get me a memory card.

Yeah thats a bit of a shame isn't it. I bought both Star wars games to play through, but need to pick up a mem card first.

The must haves are:
Mario Sunshine.
Mario Kart: Double Dash.
Zelda: The Wind Waker.
Resident Evil 4. (even if you dont like RE games, you'll love this).
Metroid Prime.
Metroid Prime 2: Echos.

And arguably:
Starfox Adventures.
Pikmin 1.
Pikmin 2.
F-ZeroGX.

I just picked up Mario Kart for a tenner, but Im wondering which controller do I have to use for the Gamecube games. Can I use the standard Wiimote and Nunchuck, or do I have to get a classic controller, or even an original Gamecube controller?

Just on that note

Is it possible to use the Cube controller rather than buy the classic controller for both wii games and the virtual arcade titles?

Interesting if so, mmmm

The gamecube controller works with all games on the virtual console so there is no need to pick up the classic controller.

Sneakily copied an pasted from what I wrote on another forum:

I'm going to cunningly split my lists (as well as cheating and combining franchises for one entry), as one of the biggest strengths of the Gamecube was its multiplayer offerings. So,

If you have friends:
10: Mario Kart Double Dash (every other Mario Kart is better, but it's still good)
9: TimeSplitters 2
8: Soul Calibur 2
7: Four Swords (probably not an option, due to needing four GBAs and four link cables, but an ace game if you bother to)
6: Smash Bros Melee
5: Mario Party (any of them)
4: Donkey Konga (both)
3: Super Monkey Ball (both)
2: Crystal Chronicles (see Four Swords, but FF:CC is also, annoyingly, one of the best console multiplayer games I've ever played)
1: WarioWare!

If you prefer single player games (also known as haha you have no friends lol):
10: Viewtiful Joe
9: Eternal Darkness
8: Soul Calibur (tons to do in one-player)
7: Rogue Squadron 3
6: MGS: Twin Snakes
5: F-Zero GX
4: Super Monkey Ball 1 (fantastically challenging single-player mode)
3: Tales of Symphonia
2: Metroid Prime (both)
1: Zelda: WindWaker

Honorable mentions to Fire Emblem (number 11 on the list), Ikaruga (there's something about this game that I love, despite its hideous difficulty), Paper Mario (not played the sequel, but the N64 version was great), and Resident Evil 4 (still not played this, but by all reports it's pretty damn awesome).

Absolutely made up now, popped into town to meet my lass for lunch as she has to work this week and popped into a games retailer, quick glance through the Gamecube games and picked up the 2 disc limited edition Windwaker pack with Ocarina of time. £17, a little pricey but still a decent amount cheaper than on ebay.

Popped to the counter, couldnt see any Gamecube controllers so asked the lad. Nope, didnt have any. Oh, hangon he says, theres an official wireless one here, I can see how much it is if you like. £4.99. I had to try very hard not to rip off his arms whilst he still had hold of it. Seem to be going for £20+ on ebay.

So now I have the Wii with games, a Wavebird, Zelda and Mario Kart Double Dash which I picked up for a tenner yesterday. Added to the numerous pairs of Bongos I got in the sales, fair bit of gaming ahead of me then :)

Oh, and that doesnt include all the 360 goodies I got for Xmas

Edit - Also picked up the RGB cable for the Wii yesterday, for £19. Asked the lad in the store who said they didnt have any, even though they were hanging next to the counter. Oh he said. Is that what they are, people have been ringing for them all day and Ive been saying we didnt have them :D Cant get the staff eh!

Does the Wavebird thing fit on the Wii?
