I bought an RGB cable for my gamecube the other day but it's not being recognised by my telly as rgb and as such the picture still looks naff.

Is there any way I can switch the output on the game cube? I've turned it on without a disc in to access the menu but I cant see any options on it...

There are no options. I don't think you can choose 50hz with a RGB (as opposed to composite scart) and that's where the problem is, 60hz. Was on my LCD panel anyway.

Did you buy a geniune one? I bought a fake one recently which was rubbish - lots of cross-talk interference. Got it replaced and the new one was just the same. Luckily found a geniune one at auction for £5 and the difference is amazing.

GC auto outputs in RGB so nothing to switch, are you sure your TV supports RGB input?

I know my TV has one 1 x RGB SCART socket and one non-RGB SCART (why? who knows but it does...).

So you could try it in the other SCART (if there is one).

It makes a world of difference when its working.

As HeX says, a lot of TVs only have one RGB SCART input, the other will be S-Video/Composite. Bit of a pain as we have about 4-5 RGB devices here and one input on the TV, so there's a lot of daisy chaining going on through the Freeview/VM box etc :p
