Gameing pc System help

Hi Danny, Welcome to the OCUK forums :D

I'd be happy to spec you up a system. I just need to check how much you need:

Do you need peripherals like monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, microphone etc?

Do you need an OS or do you already own one you want to use? Also, are you a student so eligible for the discounted Windows 7 offers?

hi m8 i am i have a hd monitor but i need a full pc gameing keyborad and mouse headset Not monitor yh i do go collegei would love window 7 but how much would that add

You will need to google "windows 7 student", i'm sure you will find some good stuff :D

I will take say £40 off the £700 budget for the OS - so that leaves £660 for the rest of the system, here is my spec:

cmndr_andi would he not be a little better off with the AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 810 2.60GHz (Socket AM3) at £119.99 inc VAT while it's only £20 more or would the tri-core outperform it in bang-for-buck?

If we are talking games, at this level it wouldn't really matter - the graphics card would limit the performance before the CPU, so he may as well save the money. If you turned down to graphics settings so that games become CPU limited then in some the quad would win (with its extra core) and in some the X3 would win with its higher clockspeed. Its really all down to the game.

In CPU bound multithreaded tasks, the X4 would certainly be the better choice (though the OP didn't mention needing this).

But TBH, if the OP really wants to go for a Quad - I would suggest going for a X4 955. Its an extra £15 on top of the 810 - but in this case the performance crown is not in doubt.

If you allready have a headset dont get a new one and use the money you save to get AMD Phenom II X4 Quad Core 955 Black Edition 3.20GHz instead of the AMD Phenom II X3 Tri Core 720 ;)
