anyone know of a good usb gamepad for the pc?

has to be wireless. not sure if there are any options for wireless pads for the pc.

I'm pretty sure you can get the newer Xbox 360 wireless controllers onto PC now, check the microsoft site for drivers and compatability.

I've used a wired one with games and it works really well.

Worth buying as a gamepad even if you don't own a 360.

hehe, if you find a wireless one, please let me know, would be awsome playing some css with a wireless pad sitting back and relaxed.

as for your question, on my previous rig (not on this temp one) i did have the drivers (not legit... if you know what i mean) to convert the usb cabled pads for the xbox 360 to pc use. was awsome! took me several weeks to track a working and non trojan infested packed driver, but it was worth it. ill try salvage the files from the HDD... although i doubt possible, but if i do, ill put em up on the web at a safe location.

apart from that... not sure to be honest hehe

The 360 pad is great, I was just about to recommend it from the thread title, then saw the wireless part. The wireless ones connect to a wireless hub inside the console, so I don't know how you could get them to interface with a pc, unless you can seperately buy a USB dongle for it. I've never seen one of those, I know MS don't make one, but I'm sure it's feasible that someone else might have had a fiddle around with the idea.

:O your kidding me.... when they first came out, MS said it 'could' be possible and i had to find a dodgy one that someone compiled and built thereself... and now its supported by them!!! grrrr, MS are going downhill in my opinion, no customer care.

You can plug them into service pack 2 and they'll work right off as far as I know. I just did it. Not sure if it's bundled with SP2 or if it's a windows update addon, but they're marketed as fully working with windows...

i shouldnt really say this, but i use a custom windows CD... and its got a fairly early SP2 version on it... and i feel so deprived of the world now lol. all that effort and your saying all i had to do was get some updates and it would have worked :s

oh well... lol, ill be buying a 64 windows disk with my next rig in january..

thats a good idea, i do plan on buying a 360 early next year. so it could be a good investment. did not know that the pads would work with the pc.

any ideas though on the wireless ones?

would really like a wireless pad for the pc.

360 pad is bloody awesome, and guess what you can even plug in the Xbox Live headset into the bottom of it and the PC detects it as a USB headset!!!

I thought that rocked as my headset broke that night and I didn't think the 360 mic would work, and I love the 360 headset, great quality and comfy!!

Microsoft are realeasing a USB dongle thingy that will let you use Xbox 360 wireless controllers on your PC this year at some point.
Wow can't wait for that!

Can bind a Ventrilo push-to-talk-key to the controller and sit downstairs and chat, awesome! :D

!
All my mates on Vent were watching School of Rock earlier, I felt so leftout as my monitor (my tv also) doesn't have an aerial to it! :p

iv not used the 360 conroller, how is it?

iv used the ps2 pad before but its seperate direction buttons on the D pad make it arkward for fighting games like streetfighter etc to get the special moves out.

and my original sidewinder pads are not supported by windows x64 since the gameport is now abolished

does 360 pad have a solid D pad like the old snes pads used to? need it mainly for fighting games so special moves need to come out proper.

It's a perfect controller really, comfy, high quality and yeah the d-pad is pretty solid in my opinion, does have rumble on it too but not all games support it sadly.

If you see the PC labeled version more expensive than the 360 version, get the 360 version it's the same except it don't come with Drivers (Microsofts site has them anyway!)

Logitech Cordless Rumblepad 2 :)

I've used mine to play PES6, Marvel Ultimate Alliance, POP and various other games all without a problem.

that pad look good and i see that there are also windows X64 drivers for it. costs £25 at my local pc shop so i can pick it up tomorrow is need be.

how is the D pad on it? good for streetfighter style games? and how is the response? any delays or lag because its wireless?

how is the range and battery life on it too?? looks like you may have found me a good pad there.

I can't say I've used the D pad much. I started playing PES with it but quickly switched to the analog stick as it offered more control. I haven't switched back since. I've not tried it with any fighting games but it feels no different to the D pad on the PS2 pad. I've not noticed any lag but I can't say I've looked for any.

The range is excellent as is the battery life. I only use my pad a metre or so away from the computer but I've tried it downstairs, through the ceiling, and it worked and I've tried it in my brothers room about 8 metres away, through 2 block walls and two doors, and it worked.

The 100 hour quoted usage for the battery life is pretty spot on although I find the rumble function stops working whenever the battery starts to get low. I don't know if it's a feature built in to preserve the battery but the rumble's nothing to write home about so I don't use it much.
