Hi

I'm trying to find a gamepad that uses wifi rather than a more direct connection to a computer. Does any body know of any?

Cheers,

Chris

why would you want to use wifi?

Direct connection goes from pad to PC, wifi goes pad > router > PC, it's going to add lag to controlling them.

Without going into too much detail, I've lost my office and fixed location for PC due to 6 month old daughter, so the PC is going in the rackmount with the rest of my servers. The location of the rack is not accessible and through a large number of walls.

I'm intending to initially use RemotR and Steam Streaming to play games across the number of TVs and HTPCs I have so that if I get kicked out of the lounge I can go play in the bedroom etc. At this stage I can obviously use the USB ports so not such an issue.

Unfortunately I've noticed that this method is no so great so I'm looking ultimately at HDMI active matrix switches to get a direct host > display connection, hence the looking for alternatives for gamepad connections.

As a result, I'm looking for a way to get continuous pad connection no matter where I am. I can, of course run USBoIP or USB extender cables and physically mount cables in the walls of each room and then plug a wired cable OR adapter but I was looking for a more freidnly approach.

Appreciate the latency issue, although I do wonder how much it would affect as the latency from wifi devices to my fixed network is generally 1ms or so.

Why not use a wireless XBox controller via bluetooth. I have a little usb dongle in the back of my pc and I just click the XBox button on the controller to pair it. Works up to 50 metres away.

I asked this question on the xbox one pad thread but didn't get a reply.

To give more details, my house is a timber construction and the 22u rack cabinet is under the house. approximately 4m from the centre of the house. House is only 15m wide and 12m deep and single story.

How does the xbox pad work over distance through timber walls etc? we have no brick, its just gib walling and timber framing.
