What's the best way to capture gameplay footage of PC Games? at the moment I only want to capture to post to youtube etc but in the future (when I get better internet) I may want to stream?

If I need to buy extra hardware, what the best??

You don't need hardware. Any of the capture programs Dg linked are good. Then use Handbrake to encode your raw videos (I recommend capturing uncompressed, or at least lossless like Lagarith) into H.264. OBS for streaming.

Shadow Play for Nvidia cards. Gives no fps drop and lets you capture after the action has happened. Pretty useful.

Fraps, Dxtory etc all hit your fps to some degree.

I've just had a play with some and settled with Mirillis for now. OBS seemed good but I seemed to be getting a lot of h264 crashes when running it. DXTory has loads of options but I found it too muc

Ahhh that's a good point, I've recently got a 780Ti so that may work out well, I'll give it a go tonight.

I find ShadowPlay pretty decent but if you've got an SSD in the system make sure you set both the capture and temp folders to a mechanical HDD if possible (results in very slightly larger files but no extra performance loss unless your HDD is junk) I put a TON of extra writes on my SSD which isn't really a good idea just trying it to see how much an impact it would have.
