I've never been much of an online gamer, but wireless latency never seemed to plague me in the few online obsessions that I have had, such WoW, Forza Motorsport 2/3 and Battlefield Vietnam. My lack of skill was more of a handicap to be honest.
Wired for anything stationary on the network. Even the Wii. Only use wireless for phones and laptops/netbooks.
Have used homeplugs before. Find them very hit and miss depending on the house. Had one issue where I'd get dropped from the network if the fridges compress started.
Been wireless for years. The only time I've been wired was with a BT hub that caused so many issues that I went back to wireless with it. Never had any issues with lag.
Wireless, but only because my dad won't allow a wired solution to be permanently implemented. The route I'd have to run the cable to my room also isn't ideal. I'm not fussed, though, I mostly get good or excellent signal strength and haven't had any issues gaming online.
Virgin cable modem => 200 mbps powerline => virgin router => 2 pc's and laptop all works perfectly, I have 20mb cable and consistently I can get 17-20mb according to speedtest.net and ping is allways very good absolutely no issues with the powerline adapters been using them for nearly 2 years now and still going strong.
Wireless. Not had many issues with it, though in one game (Dystopia) I get huge lag spikes, but no others. Would go wired if I could, but I'm on the opposite side of the house to the router, so its not feasible
ive been meaning to run some cables into in the router but havent got round to it yet... i havent noticed any problems with it, ping is fine for all fps games. i will be putting some cables down when i can be arsed
