Gotta give MS a big pat on the back for introducing this concept, obviously MS will only likely ever make money on games being sold so what better way to sell games than offer Gamerpoints for completing achievements.

My mate thinks he's a gaming god because he spends all day playing (unemployed) and has about 12,000pts, he has bought loads of games already some of them he doesn't even like but where there's gamerpoints to be had there's games to be bought. ;)

Achievements are also a great way of prolonging the lifetime of a game, for example I got bored of PGR3 after the 2nd day but I've recently dug it out again trying to acheve all the achievements... even though as i understand it there is a bug preventing you from winning one of them.

yep i agree, and furthermore what better was of assuring brand loyalty, i mean who will switch to PS3 after getting their 20 thousandth point? who will buy a PS4 over a XBOX 520(or whatever) when they have a live tag they can carry over with a history of everything they've ever achieved built right in?

Surely only students and the unemployed have time to seriously go for points tho ?
From a marketing pov its a great idea but from a personal point of view, a higher score surely indicates that >

a) You have no life
b) Are too lazy to find a job
c) Have more money than sense
d) Are single, dont see daylight, white as a sheet (think wraith from SG Atlantis lol)
e) Feel you underachieve in the male ego dept and thus need to show the world how good you really are :p

Seriously tho, I dont really see the point. I also dont like the fact that it kind of alienates people who can only afford to buy maybe one game every couple of months or suchlike.

the idea behind it tho is to try and get people to do EVERYTHING in the game, 1 for one have just spent weeks trying to get ALL achievements in PGR3. Its sad yes but it has kept me playing the game constantly and i feel chuffed now that i have managed to do everything :D I will start on DOA4 or PD0 and try and get the rest of them achievements too.

I think its a great idea keeps u interested in a title for longer meaning u get ya moneys worth really!

Nar, it's literally what it is, a sense of achivement. There's a dedicated thread about COD2 today and going for the Veteran across all levels.

Imagine if you wanted to have a 'good' game on Multiplayer, someone joins in the game called "IOWNZJU-UK" brandishing the fact they've 'pwned' COD2 and finished Veteran in a Saturday afternoon. Sure enough, go see how they fair and see that they are nothing but full of bull poo!

Or imagine having "RACERDUDE-USA" as a friend, you've got all Platinums, fancy a nice bit of competition and see that he too has achieved Platinum status - it's a fair deal.

I know what you're saying though, there is a sense of "Ooooo, gotta get a big e-penis", but likewise it does serve as a good indicator on how well someone is, especially if you're wanting an equal partner on multiplayer.

Yes i agree with you and Rich on many of those points and of course its not a bad thing.
Just grates that some people see this as the be all and end all of things, another way to willy wave if you like. Still, cant blame MS those lot eh :-)

Its as simple as this, i want to 100% games, i want to excel in all disciplines in a given game. But mostly i can't be bothered. Now with gamerpoints im driven to really take apart games and even better i dont have to keep them to prove it. On PS2 at one point i had almost 500 games, all of which id finished and the total cost was 1,00's upon 1,00's. Now ive hammered through almost half the launch titles andd hardly spent anything. Why? because i can PROOVE what ive done with my gamerpoints and achievment list. Gives me a happy inside glow. :D

I think the idea of the gamerscore and achievements is fantastic personally.

Please don't hate my big willy :(

I got my 360 on Saturday, and in my opinion have played it ALLOT. My gamerscore is 20....(3 hours in total maybe?

Don't play much, but still enjoy it. I don't want to advertise my gamer tag as a sig because of my pathetic score. Plus, i refuse to buy more than one game every couple of months because I don't want it to take up to much of my time.
(Bought Kameo for me and my girlfriend to play two player when she's round though lol) :)

Another point (kind of off topic) There are some right p****s out there on PGR3 Live races. Lets just say 50% of the folk i have been racing are foul mouthed losers who take the whole winning thing far to seriously. What they are doing in the recreation zone I'll never know...

The zones are not properly implemented in games yet. I for one hope they will be. Your right about PGR tho, altho some people are pretty cool. The problem is not with live its what happens when you give evry twog in the world a voice, especially angry nerds who never get laid. I mean lets face it we see enough of it on the internet dont we. Besides you can mute anyone you (dis)like in the dashboard

Yes, that's what I like about Live. Their rep will take a bashing if they carry on too (not that they care I bet)
I knocked this guys car going into a corner, causing him to lose first position. I apologized and the response was "Oh you ******* w*****"

The only guys that seem to be pretty cool (so far anyway) are American players

i tend not to play PGR online anymore, especially if im on a winning streak, i tend to get ganged up on which sucks, i put myself in recreation because i didnt want people spouting "owned" down the mic.

I have to say PDZ online is much better, i TK'ed a few people by accident the other night, just had em laughin at me (in a nice way) it was all pretty chilled :) and me and this guy was having a massive sniper battle (i won :D)

its like with any 'sport' (idiotic i know) you are bound to have people who take it deadly serious, people who take joy in annoying others, people just out for a laugh, people that are utterly useless at it etc. Just gotta roll with it, at the end of the day, the headset has a volume knob and theres nothing they can do except leave the server and let you ram and smash your way to victory as much as you like

i just start to sing :)

lol yeah see. now some would call it spamming or whatever but its all just a laugh. im sure it wont be long before real clan-centric type games come out and you can have a good 'serious' game. but for now its just a laugh and its entirely public so it must be put up with.
