Ok, as the title says, what games are ouot at the moment along the genre of Red Alert/Command & Conquer?.

Note though, i'm on a laptop, so nothing too much to give it a hernia ;)

Thanks :)

I think Company of Heroes would be a closer match. StarCraft 2 is a bit too sci-fi. If you are going for sci-fi, how about Dawn of war (the original)? that shouldnt tax your laptop too much.

StarCraft is indeed quite sci-fi, but its closes to RA2/C&C games in terms of units control and gameplay. StarCraft is my personal fav :)

Company Of Heroes is more realistic though, and takes into consideration cover etc .. very nice game indeed! how could I forget it!!

+1 for Dawn of War. Awesome game.
The platinum edition (Game plus 2 expansions) is on steam for £9.99 iirc. Was on offer a few weeks ago for £4.99 too!
Well worth a go. =)

Although it is by no means a recent game, Total Annihilation is a title that I can happily recommend. It's visually dated but I think it still plays very well :)

+1 for Dawn of War.

The only similarity between Red Alert and the above 2 games is they are all an RTS.

Otherwise they are completely different games. In Red Alert you get rewarded for turtling, in CoH you have to space out to collect the resources. Coh also has far fewer units and micro-management. Red Alert is about spam and defeating your opponent with a massive horde of tanks.

There are more ways to win a game than spamming tanks in Red Alert 3. A strategy of flak troppers and terrordrones(attack the harvesters) will always guarantee you wins against most people whoo play the tank spammy game.

I used to play Red alert on my old work laptop, it was crap spec, but it could also run Total Annihiliation and Dawn of war, both games very similar to Red alert. Have fun!

Supreme Commander: Forged Alliance.

Base Building, resource management and a **** ton of units on the map!

And is in the future.

Company of Heroes is the gold standard to my mind. Dawn of War (the first one) is a close second. Both squad-based RTS games, same genre as C&C/RA but very different playstyle and both should run smooth as butter on your laptop. Both are somewhat similar games between them, so pick your preference - DoW for futuristic space affair, CoH for WW2 joy.
