Ok, my system is in my signature below.

Recently my PC keeps stalling when playing games such as COD4 and COD5. The game will freeze and I'll get an error like COD4.exe has stopped working and vista will end the program.

In event viewer it will show something like this:
Faulting application CoDWaW.exe, version 1.0.0.1, time stamp 0x491678e2, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x759aa57d, process id 0x69c, application start time 0x01c965bde9cc40d5.

and also as a separate event:
The description for Event ID 0 from source cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

7

PC is running fine, memtest is clear so I think it's a software problem. Can anyone help?

Think comes down to one of too things. I removed the only software install I did recently which was a wireless dongle I borrowed from my brother.

I also removed a 2GB stick of RAM as the mobo apparently can't use all of it (can only use 3GB).

The problem now seems to have stopped. What of the two above is more likely to have caused it?

Could be RAM issue but when I had RAM problems I got system crashes, not just application. Could dxdiag help?

Your Pc won't care that it has too much ram it just won't use it so I would check the drivers for your wireless dongle borrowed from your brother.

Make sure they are current, Out of date drivers can be a pain in the bum...

Removed wireless drivers - problem exists
Removed 2GB RAM - problem still exists
Put 2GB back in and loaded optimised defaults in bios - problem hasn't come back yet

Ok, I think I may have found possibly why I'm having errors. The kingston memory is designed to run at 1.8V

However on auto the Gigabyte GA 945GCM-S2L on auto runs it at 2.0V (persumably this could cause a lot of problems - I have a number of problems which stall - could this be causing it?)

The problem is I only seeing options to add +0.1V etc. in the bios. Does anyone know how I can get my memory set to 1.8V in a Gigabyte bios please?!

Still completely puzzled as to why all my games crash
