Evening guys,

Hoping you can help me out here. Recently whenever I run a game it locks up. The PC is still running as a quick CTRL+ALT+DEL gets me into Task Manager. With Dirt 3 the game loads and I can choose a race, at the start line it just locks.
Tried a file check on it through Steam, all fine. Updated graphics card drivers, all fine.

Done the same with Metro 2033, same deal after about 2 minutes. Although Terraria is fine, I am assuming there is something wrong with the graphics card or maybe RAM when under some load.

Got any ideas?

The usual.

Run in windowed mode, monitor temps and voltages with HWMonitor & al, and the GPU temps.

Run stress tests on the memory, gpu and cpu separately, then all together, for at least a couple of hours.

Could be the GPU getting cooked, either a bad contact on the HSF, or need to run tighter fan profiles.

Could be CPU, chipset, and so on...

Try reinstalling your sound and direct x.

Often youll find games trying to install conflicting versions of directx

if you are overclocking - check for stability, might have a bad overclock.

Not running any clocks at the moment!

I ran FurMark last night, picture:http://i.imgur.com/CYAoV.jpg
The temps look alright to me, well nothing too shocking.

Cheers for that, I'll give that a go!

http://i.imgur.com/tHLP2.jpg - This was run on the standard settings I was using at 1024x768 and all was fine.

http://i.imgur.com/a3NGJ.jpg - This was run at 1024x768 at full settings, crashed in the same place as it was before. Dirt3 becomes unresponsive, CPU/GPU load goes to 0%. After killing the process, the window closes but the process is still running (RAM used too!). Totally lost with this.

Update:

Well I tried to run Memtest last night but failed! DVD drive has stopped working so I ran the Windows memory diagnostic, computer fails to boot into Windows.

Thinking its time for a re-install.
