Anyone know of any simple games for a 4 year old brother? basically he has his "own" cheap laptop.. and i've got no idea what games to install? :) i need something simple best of all mouse controlled (as thats one thing he can use properly) any ideas?

Trackmania Nations Forever? Free to download on Steam although will most likely be too demanding for a "cheap laptop".

tried that already :) it does run on "medium" settings.. but he does not like playing i guess its a bit too hard or not interesting for him?

he likes snooker, football, cars(mainly off road), bowling etc.. are there any games like that with simple controls?

the lappy is not cheap its just not gaming orientated one. i have obviously sugested buying some games for the Wii he has.. but this new "thing" arrived at home and now the Wii is not used ;) we'll see for how long :) i need to find something as i keep getting asked about it :]

don't know about installed games, but nickjr, cbeebies, playhouse disney all have excellent games on the websites suitable for children aged 4.

Definatally, these might be a bit more brain stimulating than mainstream games.
TBH i think a laptop for a 4 year old is madness. There are plently of toy laptops out there with number/alphabet learning games.

I think it depends. My children played those when they were 2 literally until the 'laptop' wore out. My just turned 5 year old has been working a real laptop and the web without any assistance for months now. Can search for cbeebie or whatever she wants by typing it in and can click through to the games. Only thing is there's usually about 24 firefox windows open whens she's finished :)

She also doesn't even notice switching between trackpad/mouse/trackball or trackpoint and can use any just as easily, and can find her way around gnome, macosx (photobooth is her favourite) and win7/xp. Some adults can't even manage that.

^Wow how times have changed, dont think we even had a pc when i was 5.. or we might have but i was NEVER EVER allowed to go near it :P

Wouldnt like my child to be sat infront of a computer on a reqular basis until 12 or so. Hand held stuff is ok in moderation, i think they need as much real life interaction as possible.

Its worked very will with my step son and will work well with my new son. It also worked well with me.

Obviously people will not agree with me because this is a computer overclockers forum, but its very much like young people taking drugs - they think its ok because everyone does it or has done it and its not till later in life when they realise they were wrong and everyone doesnt do it, unfortunatally some people dont grow up and they continue to think everyone does it.

EDIT : Now i think about it my family always had a computer from BBC to Archimedes and PC but i was too busy doing things outside to spend much time on them.

Im not having a go at the OP, i dont know his situation what so ever. I just find it odd that children as young as that and younger are allowed to spend huge amounts of time on computers.

Computer games were not as addictive as they are today (probably due to massive loading times!) and there were no ratrings to worry about, ive seen first hand what a mmo can do to an inoccent child, its not pretty.

But for the OP i would definatally explore the cbeebies website.

The Cbeebies website and the NickJr website suffice fine for my 4 year old daughter. She plays on those for an hour or so a week. Quite useful as she has to use a computer at Nursery and will also have to use one at Infant school when she starts there in Sept, so good to get her a leg up now at home. Does wonders for her reading ability and co-ordination too.
