My youngest (19 months) likes to sit and mash the keyboard. Don't panic I give her an old one to smash and not my gaming one :p Are there any 'games' on steam where that would make something happen she can see? I dont know if im explaining it well but basically something that can translate mashed keys into something visual for her?

Let her watch you play and give her the keyboard unplugged. I used to do this with my daughter (now 2) and she thought she was actually playing :D.

Honestly, do you have an old android mobile?

Cbeebies make some good apps, there's a few toddler based games out there, anything from random noises to learning the alphabet etc

Touch screen is so much easier.

If you insist on keyboard, just open word, set the font to large and let them bang away. Or pop a webcam up so they can see themselves :D

Old mobile phone is best, you can get one some phones/tablets a kids mode where they can't do anything other than use what you've given them access to anyway.

Our daughter was using an ipod touch from about that age to play herself music etc. Very handy on long car journeys too if you can give them something else to play with when they are awake which you can both interact with.

Even without a sim card installed, can't mobile phones still be used to call 999? While it probably wouldn't happen, something to keep in mind on the odd chance they found a way to do it.

I am pretty certain it needs to be an active sim to make any outgoing calls. It doesn't need credit on the account mind but it has to be active.

Without a sim it wouldn't be able to access a network and I've not had a problem for the last 5 years with my 2 kids

Any Lego games would work, with a controller, my 2 year old enjoys playing them (not sure he entirely knows what he's doing, he tends to rim in circles but he seems to enjoy it).
