Righto, I'm in the process of upgrading my gf's machine from a 1.2Ghz Duron with shared mobo graphics to hopefully a 1700+ to 2400+ with a Radeon 9600.

Machine has 512MB ram, so what would you reccomend?

Sims 2 is a definite, and one of the newer Civilisations, plus I could get her started on the less beefy MMORPG.

Anything else you can reccomend, guessing the sim/civilisation style games are prolly mostly her bag.

Thanks :)

CSS :p

Might want to try the Total War series (although I doubt Rome would play on that machine). They're fairly complex games, but very good.

She might like Guild Wars if you're trying to get her into a basic MMO. :)

The Sims 2 and expansions are obvious, but you should maybe try the Final Fantasy games as my ex-girlfriend was absolutely obsessed (and I never liked them TBH.)

Can't forget Lego Star Wars either if she's even remotely into the franchise, one of the most fun games ever.

Cheers guys :D

Due to financial issues though, looks like the Duron 1.2 stays in, but at least it gets some oomph from the 9600 I sourced.

RTW withstanding, would the other games still be playable on this spec?

CS 1.6

Doesn't require too much power and plenty of "girl" gamers on "the scene".

If you mean Counter Strike, FPS and other quick reaction type games arent really her thing (she has trouble controlling FPS games, runs into walls n stuff, lol)

Aye my GF runs into walls and stuff too....but she aint got a pc nor console , she just runs into walls :p :D

lol does she a have white stick or a golden retriever too?

My gf likes all the stratagy type games such as age of empires, stronghold, settlers etc.

Must be control freak type thing :)

have you tried googling "barbie" or something similar? try it with 2001 as a year so they will run fine on 9600...

Games for girls??? Very strange.... but then I don't think I fall into the norm when gaming perhaps. As for MMORPGs, perhaps try Ultima Online (run it as the 2D client). It will easily run on that machine. As long as graphics aren't a big factor it's a game i would easily recommend. Still one of the best in terms of gameplay and how the game is structured.

hmmm wonder if you got the gfx card from me? did you buy it from grahamtruman007?

:D

Ooh my advice dont get your girl hooked on online games like UO...

You will have to pay the subscription fees for starters :)

She could spend more time playing on it than playing with you.
