Mainly a question for the 40+ members here.
Just wondering which games appeal to the older generation these days.
I've not played anything in years but I'm buying a new PC once the new cards come out.

Have you got any games you want to play when you get your new PC, so we have something to go on?

I could be wrong, but it seems like you've got this all backwards and you're buying a new PC without really knowing what you want to play? I did it once when I hadn't had a gaming PC for a few years and it was a waste of money, I'd find myself buying and/or installing games and spending 5 minutes on them.

Nope I've no idea that's why I asked.
Not really feeling the online multiplayer at my age as you would be playing with teenagers which just feeling wrong.

I'm 42 and games I have been playing recently is Helldivers 2 and Diablo 4

Before this I played CS 2 (counter strike 2) and The division 2

Like others though I just tend to play whatever takes my fancy, I did try Cyberpunk when it first came out but I could not get in to it after trying for 5 hours

Just trickled over into my 50's.

Played a bit of BLOPS 6, mostly Zombies. Path of Exile, Deep Rock Galactic Survivor, MMO's such as LOTRO and some MSFS2024 when it decides to work correctly. Oh and Everspace 2, for my job :D

I'm Considerably past 40+ and I play pretty much every genre (except for streetfighter/mortal kombat style beat em ups), so almost everything appeals to me :)

I just hit 40, I loaded up Warzone the other day with the new movement, the training Warzone mission you do where you're against other new players and maybe bots I won 3 games, got 10 + kills per game and was like wow I'm not too bad. Got in to the real game and these movement kings got me a few times, it was that moment that I decided I no longer want to try and compete with that I just can't keep up lol.

I still play fighting games though, if you're in to them I'd recommend Brawlhalla or SF6/Tekken 8 with the modern controls.

Hard core sims are meant to be for the "grown ups" - DCS for combat aviation, Arma for infantry, Assetto Corsa and iRacing for racing, etc

I dont play much but i usually liked some fishing planet now and then, just had a bit of a play of slay the spire and actually won 2 characters in that which i never used to be able to before. Trying to find a rpg to play i installed dragon age inquisitor tho im getting bored of it already after few hours as i just want a lite rpg that isnt too heavy into micromanagement but its turning out like i have to set the companions up as i move through it. Played some warthunder but mainly cos a friend plays it and thought it be somit to do with a friend but i aint fussed if i dont play it. I like gta games mainly cos of all the diff scripted missions and the driving about mess about.

Used to love point and click adv games but find it hard to play these days as there slow and not many that are that interesting anymore, last one i finished was the new monkey island even tho i didnt care for the art style tho got used to it. Stardew valley was somewhat fun for a bit tho gets a bit boring after awhile. Tried to play rdr2 but the controls are a bit overdone as in hard to remember what does what on a pad and lost direction tho i just jump in and try a bit of hunting for fun tho never make money off it but somit to do and the gfx are mint especially the sky.

I used to like playing x series of games but after u played one the next and next all seem the same just with updated gfx which im like meh do i have to do station building and fleets AGAIN, lol. Mainly did that in up till x2 and liked the stories but after that the other games were just too samey and wish i just stopped buying em as never play em. Portal 1 and 2 were fun i liked the puzzle aspect and the storys.

Thought about trying civ games again i installed civ 5 tho only really played 4 mostly, not played 5 yet so dunno if i will after all.

Anyhow as a 40ish guy thats what my gaming is like. Mainly just go watch anime on sites, watch trek on twitch and watch the odd new film on pc these days, i think gaming just got boring. Especially with my short attention span for gaming lol.

- Flight Sims - DCS is especially good.
- Space Sims - Elite and Star Citizen, but also some of the more arcadey ones like Freelancer, Star Lancer, Freespace (with BSG mod), some of the Star Wars stuff, Everspace, Spacebourne, etc
- Various first and 3rd person action/adventure games - Cyberpunk 2077, Skyrim, Halo, Borderlands, Thief, Assassins' Creed, Kingdom Come: Deliverance, The Force Unleashed, Jedi Fallen Order, the original Tomb Raider series, Mass Effect, Sleeping Dogs.

With most games, I like a mix of combat and puzzle, with a decent story behind it. I hate anything with mindless repetition and bullet sponges, like Doom.
I enjoyed the story campaigns in the Battlefield series and SW Battlefront, but the online multiplayer is a bit dull.
I occasionally dip into more casual games like Ninja Turtles.

I find age is not really the defining element, so much. It's more about what you want to get out of it.

I'm 49 and my age hasn't factored into what I install, my main game is Valorant - counter strike clone and full of kids screaming down the mic telling me to get cancer or kill myself, or even quirky mum jokes, little do they know that she is in her late 70's ;)
Playing the new COD game too and I can still hold my own though not as well as 20 years ago.

I would try what type of game you used to play and not let your age be a factor.

Over 50 and I play a mix of everything, but mostly things that don't need intense reactions or tension. Recently I've been playing:
- Factorio
- Satisfactory
- Old-School Runescape
- Astrobot
- Dragon Age purple
- Train Life - A Railway Simulator
- FS2024 (I would be if it worked)
Sims are always a favourite, but anything that is more relaxing after working all day.
