Personally I can't really say, since the only game I have with that feature is Shadowrun (needless to say I haven't played that much, but it wasn't the Live issue in this case, I just didn't like the game)

Theoretically, I don't have any problems with the silver option since you can play PC players for free (except the whole achievements nonesense and choosing nickname). Since I am not about to pay to get the priviledge to play xbox users, ROFL, I like playing on PC because it has less of those button bashing pimple faced verbal abusers.

As it currently stands I don't have a problem with it, but I don't see anything in it for me either (making sure there is no cheating, more stable servers, fighting piracy (developers should get paid for their work or else we can't bitch that there are no more games) etc...)

However, I am wearry that in the not so distant future this LIVE thing could be just another marketplace and restrict some of the things I have enjoyed over the years in PC online gaming such as free online play (not so free since I bought the game in first place, ex imagine BF2 without online!?), mods, custom maps etc...

Anyway these are my thoughts, you are free to have a different opinion, and don't be shy. It would be interesting to hear other peoples' experience with it :) (don't really care about ranting/flames though)

When i first got my 360, i was really impressed by what Live had to offer. It seemed to take everything that made PC gaming a pain in the ass, and well, sort it out. I was really impressed. When i heard they were bringing the system over to the PC, i was excited. Sadly, they cocked it around far too much, what with the Gold account gimping things we shouldnt have to pay for, 2 poor launch games (Halo 2 & Shadowrun), initially making it Vista only etc. Nothing was going for it, and really atm its simply not as polished as it needs to be. I look at it like what Steam used to be when it first came out, everyone hated it, it was a complete mess and caused no end of problems, but look at Steam now ? I hope over time it matures into something thats a genuine benefit to PC gaming (it has potential imo). The first step to sorting it out would be to make it all free, or give something REALLY worthwhile to a sub-fee.

I've had problems with both halo 2 and gears of war when first starting them up after installation, I think the problem is due to the games for windows-live software though it's fine after the first time (fixed for me by restarting the program). I'd like to see more cross-platform gaming, multiple private chats (This is an xbl one tbh), and more games to inco-orporate the halo 2 feature of not having to have the disc in the drive.

The first 3 LIVE ports have been pretty awful, which is a shame as I love GoW and Halo 2 on their respective consoles.

If they include content and high speed servers for all things gaming like the marketplace does, I would have no problem paying the few pennies a week towards LIVE.

Don't really see a need for it tbh. The PC is already well catered for with online gaming apps, and I dont understand anyone who would pay to use GFWL.

We already have X-Fire, and of course we have Steam. I don't really see MS on a winner with this.

Steam has effectively rendered GFWL somewhat obsolete. Just my opinion, but I'd imagine quite a few other people think the same too.

Steam was with us before GFWL, they must have known what they had to compete with. For me, they haven't given a reason to use it over anything we already had on the PC.

Hopefully it'll just fade away quietly...

How do these free servers for games like TF2 actually make any money? I know some of them are rented but what about the multiplay ones etc?

While there are free servers for most multiplayer games then GFWL has absolutely no chance in hell of getting anywhere imo.

The fact that GFWL has not received its mammoth push it was supposed to after its unveiling at E3 a few years back indicates that MS know theyve dropped a gigantic turd onto the PC community and are trying to flush it away quietly :)

Well, I hope thats the case.

The fact Steamworks is free to developers seals the deal for me. Plus Steam Communities ROCKS.

Only games I played with the live features were gears of war and kane and lynch, and out of the 2 only GOW I still play regularly. So yeah very poor on pc. I don't see anyone getting the gold membership unless they have x360.

I think (and hope) that if there to make it work, theyd need to do a stunning port of Halo 3 to show off just how usefull Live can be (for example, all the forge stuff). I doubt it will happen though (MS ports are blergh).
