What's it for? I thought it was the PC version of your Gamercard on the 360 so to speak. I thought I could just have it running in the background, and it allow me to pick up achievements for my PC games?

So far I've managed to log into it once, every other time it's given me some kind of error message and refused to log in or connect to the net. Also, the one time I did manage to log in with my Gamercard from my 360 I couldn't find or track any achievements/gamerscore.

So what exactly is it for?

Cheers. :)

Wiki says:

Features

* Single gamertag
* Common gamer profile
* Common gamerscore
* Single player achievements - All titles have achievements, though some share the list with the Xbox 360 version (The PC and Xbox 360 versions in fact have separate lists, allowing gamers to achieve points for both versions of the game, these lists usually consist of the same achievements though)
* Private chat via text and voice
* Common friends list and online presence
* Windows only multiplayer including browsing a list of active Windows games
* Multiplayer matchmaking with friends
* TrueSkill matchmaking
* Multiplayer achievements
* Cross-platform gameplay

I like it, I like being able to be connected to Live while playing PC games, so that I can see who's online, message friends/arrange games without having to have the 360 on or have to quit the game to check xbox.com

Personally I can't remember having any problems with it while playing Fallout 3 +expansions and DoW2, I'd like to see it more prevalent in PC games that are also on consoles

Maybe it's to do with my firewall or something blocking it, perhaps that's why I'm having problems connecting. It looks like a good idea, especially having just sold my Xbox this gives me a way to keep in touch with my Xbox buddies. :)

There are only 25 LIVE titles on PC (3 have free cross platform play versus X360 players and Lost Planet Extreme Colonies is the best of those by far) so GFWL only works with those 25 games same as the Xbox version & it uses the same infrastructure & staff to manage it all. MS list only 20 of these but there are another 5 (1 is Japanese only and very rare as it cost around £120 to import :eek:) http://www.microsoft.com/games/en-US/Live/Pages/catalog.aspx. The LIVE part is the bit which denotes whether or not it supports Achievements & Messaging. MS have made it very easy now as 85% of the X360 code for achievements is the same on PC so in future there will be a lot more games using the service and some X360 exclusive DLC is also starting to come to PC as well. GTA4 TLATD is coming very soon to PC via the GFWL Marketplace Client :D

This post I made earlier shows how to check for Open NAT status.

There is only 1 more GFWL game this year and thats a good one as well: DIRT2 is out on 4th Dec :D Early next year Bioshock2 is the first confirmed GFWL title but plenty more are coming just not yet announced although codemasters Formula1 2010 game is definately GFWL but not out until the summer.

The most common technical problem is not having an Open NAT.

Who is your ISP?? Reason I ask is that BT for sure and many other EU ISP's keep resetting Open Nat status to closed from Open. GFWL needs Open NAT to function properly also on Vista you need to have the following 2 services enabled as Auto & Running as they control port forwarding:

SSDP Discovery Service
UPnP Device Host

Otherwise look here as MS have recently hired a lot more tech support staff to help on their forums due to the rapidly growing popularity of GFWL:
