Games I've missed out on

I've just switched from PC gaming on a TV with a gamepad to playing with keyboard and mouse on a 1440p monitor. There's a lot of games I've had to skip over the years due to the impacticalities of playing on a television and lack of controller support.

I've already got some games in my Steam library that I can now play (Cities Skylines, Civilisation V, Kerbal Space Race, Deadcore) but I'm wondering what else I might have missed. Bear in mind most FPS games can be played with gamepad (albeit not as well) so I don't think I'm really missing anything in this category.

Would be grateful for any recommendations. :)

If you like shooters, then I would imagine you've not bothered with ARMA...? That's not a game you could play without a KB.

Also XCOM 1 & 2...?

Total War games. Perhaps the new Warhammer one takes your fancy?

Cities Skylines and Kerbal is amazing though, you'll thoroughly enjoy them Im sure.

You're right about Kerbal, just had my first play at it on the monitor and it is awesome. Had tried to play it on television back when it was still early access but it was impossible due to tiny text size.

My favourite genres are FPS, FPS RPG (e.g. Deus Ex and Fallout 3 +), sandbox and racing games - however I'm quite open to most things besides hardcore RPGs, anime type stuff or online only games (prefer single player).

Then maybe (if you haven't played any of the below):

GTA V (fantastic world, physics and graphics; great characters)

Just Cause 3 (repetitive but offers some mindless fun and the explosions look amazing)

Doom (seriously, you have to play this if you like FPS games)

Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider (both are very good games, beautiful graphics and locations, great traversal mechanics)

Dead Rising 3 and probably the upcoming 4 (hilarious, unadulterated zombie-slaying fun)

Dirt Rally and Project CARS (both IMO a must if you like car games, Dirt Rally is very punishing though)

Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light (very atmospheric FPS with many horror elements, impressive visuals)

Dying Light (quite a unique mix of first person parkour and survival horror with zombies)

Bioshock: Infinite (a very competent and polished shooter, worth playing for the setting alone, as was also the case for its predecessors)

I'd also recommend checking out some smaller but equally worthwhile games like Limbo and Inside (both are amazing).

Shadow of Mordor (hack'n'slash with nice visuals an rewarding combat mechanics)

I'll get back to you with some more later

Lots of good suggestions by Amatsubu. I'd also definitely add Dishonored if you've not played that yet. Great FPS/stealth game with RPG-lite elements. Will set you up nicely for the sequel later this year too...

I second Dishonored:p

I'd also suggest grabbing Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (a very fun arcade style Western shooter) and Alan Wake (a Stephen King-inspired survival horror). Both are dirt cheap now and totally worth a punt. Devil May Cry reboot as well, quality hack'n'slash with some very creative level and enemy design.

The Division is also worth checking out for the graphics and atmosphere alone but since you prefer single player games, I'm hesitant to fully recommend it. It's an online shooter/RPG blend and while you can play it solo, there's clear emphasis on team play.
