Holophonic Sound. Developed in the 1980s by Hugo Zuccarelli, Holophonic Sound uses the same “multiple exposure” premise as that used to create holographic images (“holograms”). Holophonic Sound is produced by recording the interference pattern generated when the original recorded signal is combined with an inaudible digital reference signal. The recorded sound produced is so realistic, some people claim they can smell sulphur when they listen to a holophonic recording of someone striking a match! It appears that Holophonic Sound waves stimulate our brains to reproduce very realistic and truly three dimensional sound within us, thereby stimulating other corresponding responses that our brains expect to accompany the sound, (like scents or other sensations).

This is so amazing, don't try it with speakers use your headphones, I was turning my head so much it really does sound realistic.

i have some mp3's that sound like the singer is far behind me, or the drums are placed so it sounds a few meters away. I once looked behind me too see what a noise was xD Freaky when your walking down a road though.

I just tried that with my 5.1 speakers, then with a pair of headphones. With the headphones though, it sounds/feels like the sound is moving around inside your body.

if u like that then get the music dvd from jaune micheal jarre (i cant spell his name sorry!), the album is called aero. i sat in the middle of my living room inthe dark listening to the whole thing, very impressive.

No, they don't. Not like that, try with headphones

Have you played BF2 on an X-Fi with headphones? I found that to be pretty damn good and could easily tell which direction things were coming from etc.

Yep, thats the best example of sound in a game with a £100 sound card and it still doesnt quite match AC97 with the holophonic sound ;)

Well, to be honest it doesn't sound much better than the sound I get in CS:S. I can quite easily tell a players position based on their footsteps...etc in CS:S.

Like I said, a lot of games have sound which is similar to this. CoD2, HL2/CSS, BF2, FEAR any many others all have very accurate 3D positional sound. If you have a decent sound card and a good set of phones its amazing how accurately you can work out the location of a player based on sound only.

That is very impressive, Playing bf2 with x-fi is good as you can hear enemy footsteps approaching from any direction, if you lay by a skip or rubbish you can hear fly's buzzing round your head, but that demo is much better you really think someone is behind you, cool :)
