is there any games which are open world and something like stalker as in non-linear shooter and has amazing atmosphere like in metro 2033 has?

Well, Fallout 3/NV depending on your definition of atmosphere.

Games like Stalker/Metro are very rare.

well i mean a game with a proper indepth background, i.e. not a game which shows you lite story and gives you a bombshell of missions. doesn't have to be nucleared backgrounds :) hhmmm far cry 2 had a quite decent one if you bothered reading all the text.

i didn't like the % auto-aim on fallout, maybe i misunderstood but how can that fun?

EDIT: one thing stalker & metro both have in common is that they're based on books, maybe i could search for other game books but also made in russian :). read metro 2033 book=amazing

Dont use it then lol, I forgot about it after not playing for a while and actually it makes the game quite hard. Sniper shots have more chance of killing without it though funnily enough!

Also, just finished the Metro 2033 book, dissapointed in the ending though, there was another chapter left in that for sure, it just sort of ended as if he were bored and couldnt be bothered any more.

have a go at bioshock, not based on a book I think, but very good story (twist) +atmosphere. Its hard to find a game like stalker, thats what makes it unique.

Lets all just hope they don't make a mess of Stalker 2. Games like stalker are very rare and it would be great if they continued the series.

If you like rpg's, then The Witcher games are based on a series of books written by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski. Great games in their own right, with the added bonus of entertaining, adult orientated dialogue and very immersive stories.

They already have mate, there's 3 games. Shadow Of Chernobyl, Clear sky & Call Of Pripyat.

Yeah, really looking forward to it, but from experience prepared for the worst since they're going multi-plat. Love the series, so fingers crossed.

It is based on a book called Atlas Shrugged.

A similar to game to stalker? Have you played deus ex, thats my reccomendation.

Indeed. Three top games, let's hope they keep it up with the next engine / batch. I can't think of many series that make the grade with each release.

I've never actually played Stalker for more than 30 seconds (not sure why, I think my PC couldn't run it when released).

I own Shadow of Chernobyl and Call of Pripyat. I assume I should be Shadow of Chernobyl first, right? Then CoP, then get Clear Sky?

Metro rare really?

I thought it was just another linear generic shooter?

It does have good atmosphere and graphics..But levels and game play are quite repetitive

Maybe you could upload some gameplay and that way we can suggest tips or different tactics. Once you get better armour and a half decent pistol and auto things pick up quite a lot. A lot of people struggle to get going but once they do they tend to never look back.

The order of releases was SOC, Clear Sky, Call Of Pripyat.

Played the first 2, really enjoyed them, buggy as hell on release but numerous patches and a few generations of hardware forward and they run well now. Look for the complete mod if you do install them, it overhauls the visuals to the point where they look pretty damn stunning tbh.

You'll struggle to find a more atmospheric setting than The Zone, it really is quite unique in gaming terms. Link for the first of the series SOC, complete mod below.

@ScarySquirrel :

Play them in this order : Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky and then Pripyat. Clear Sky is actually the prequel to Shadow, but play them in the released order. It's meant to be that way. Use a mod called 'The Complete' mod and make sure you also have patch 1.0005.

Thanks. Downloading the mod now. Steam download for the first game is only on 21% though :(

I tried to play stalker earlier, but found it very difficult in the sense that the weapons (albeit the pistol) felt like a pea shooter and even crouched it took way to many shots to kill someone - really lost the atmosphere for me...
