Games like Total War

Just wondering, are there any games out there like the Total War series, in the in depth tactical side of it, but based around modern warfare, e.g. the masive tank battles at Jursk in WWII or the sieges at Stalingrad etc.?

I've played things like Civ4, Total War, Company of Heroes etc. but fancy something more tactical and in depth.

If there was a game that took into account the massive scale like SupCom, the in depth tactical side like the Total War series and the resources like Civ4 I'd buy it on the spot, so just wondering if there's anything that comes close?

Sins of a solar empire? It's the closest thing to a real-time 4X ('civilisation-type') game there is. It certainly reminds me more of the total war games than any regular RTS.

aye i have Soase love it, was looking for something more akin to WWII tank/infantry rts cheers though.

dont think there are any WWII total war style games

i love that and would get it in a heart beat

the closes i can think of is that old game Sudden Strike
dunno what they call it now but i know they make news ones regularly

Ah nice one I remember playing sudden strike a long time ago Seems there is a SS3 I'll have to check it out

Sounds like you are ready for Combat Mission. Three versions available for £5 or less, hundreds of battles on the discs with thousands more available for free download. Huge number of mods including a total conversion, all free. You can fight every major encounter in WW2 and even create your own battles or tinker with existing ones.
Online games are epic and there are some superb campaigns running too.
Its old now but the community is solid if somewhat mature and quite friendly. Well worth a try.

Maybe have a look at hearts of iron 2?

It's all about strategy though. No RTS side like the TW series.

+1 for combat mission, and one day, "Combat Missions Campaigns" will arrive, which will make the game even better and slightly more towards what the OP was looking for.
