Games not supporting 1440x900 resolution?

Im currently deciding on a monitor, and ive come across quite a few people saying that a lot of games don't support 1440x900 or that the option is not available in windows either?

Is this an old problem that has been addressed. My friend has also told me that he doesnt get the option to use 1440 in crysis on his 22inch lcd either.

Whats the reason for this, can most games be played at this res?

Thanks

I play at 1440x900

Cysis supports it.

Only game i havn't found that doesn't support it is BF2 - but that just needs a little CMDline startup mod.

Otherwise its like anyother game.

crysis, cod4, gears of war, orange box, need for speed, bioshock, and anything half decent in the future. Im just debating between a 20 and 19" WS lcd, I was gonna get the 19 but unsure if 1440 was a standard or not given the remarks i have been finding.

Older games like mohaa dont support it, but there are work arounds on widescreengaming.com i think it is.

It changed the FOV (field of view) in some games which is shows as a cheat online apparently. This is why mohaa looks better in 1280x1024 on a normal aspect ratio lcd than in 1280x1024 on my widescreen

They all do. What screen do you have at the moment?

currently have a 17" CRT

see my post here for what im deciding on.

Going by crysis as a benchmark for future releases I think its probably wiser of me to have a native res lower than 1680. 1440 on a 19" is still gonna look cracking right (a lot better than 1154 on my washed out 17inch CRT), frames always come over resolution for me.

Im pretty much set on the Asus 19", one thing though I saw a clip on youtube of some chap reviewing a 20" LCD and the top and bottom of the screen were chopped off and he said this was because he had hooked up via vga?

yes i have it and it does look pretty good, but most 1680 monitor scale back nicely to 1440x900 so it shouldnt be too much of a problem.

This is what im worried about, because I wont be playing games at 1680 atall so is there any point getting a 20" lcd. I heard they go slightly blurry, when you say scale, does that work in the same way when you drop res on a crt so it just goes larger and more blocking?

or does it give a pseudo 1680 look when running at 1440? (if you get what I mean)

I really like the Asus but that LG is a bargin at 119.99
cheers

Add it to the Nvidia driver ." ini " ( I posted one weeks ago with 1280x960 etc added ), then if still not appearing in some games, add to the Games ." ini " or " cfg " or sometimes the actual Shortcut to run the Game (need do this with Stanglehold to get 1920x1440).

1440x900 monitors will get 1440x900 option where 1680*1050 monitors wont, like helmutcheese said youll have to manually add the resolution to the game.

Example
I have a 1680 monitor and play cod4 at native res, my friend has a 1440 monitor he also plays at native res but I cant see a 1440 option by default, I know the game supports its just not in my display resolution by default.

In older non wide screen games you can force 1:1 in the nvidia drivers so you keep the aspect ratio by adding black bars down the sides.

Well you have to have a game that has those resolutions as an options, otherwise you'll have to force them.
You also need to install monitor drivers so the nvidia drivers know your display will support that resolution, then if you still might not have 1440 on a 1680 monitor but I think that monitor driver rather than a nvidia driver problem.
Myself I had to add the res in the nvidia control panel and all the games I play support 1440, even If I only use it for crysis (I used GTF timings rather than custom).

they arent so much a competitor so hope this reply is ok, the widescreen gaming forums are really useful in these cases, they normally have fixes for most games in link form and images of before and after :)
