I'm feeling pretty underwhelmed with the Steam sales to be honest.
For me personally, it is a couple of reasons. Firstly, I do not have the same kind of disposable income as I used to have for things like games so I am more reluctant to spend out on games I don't really want / need just because they are cheaper.
Secondly, I'm not really interested in many of the games offered. I am actually more interested in the games on offer on console at the moment! Hence why I am selling up my gaming rig in the MM.
Truth be told, I am actually quite bored of PC gaming right now. Bored of broken games, bored of online shooters full of hackers, bored of the same old formula being used in games ad infinitum. The spark has gone out of it for me. I have posted elsewhere that the most fun I have had in a good while is playing Quake with a HD mod. Same goes for Unreal. Neither of those games I need a £2k rig to play.
I look at some of the games on console (including upcoming titles) and I find my interest is piqued in a way that it is not on PC. I never in a million years thought I would feel that way, but I do.
Of course it could just be that I am reaching the end of my PC gaming life, and perhaps reaching a point in gaming in general where I have seen it all over the last 20 years. Other than some off the wall indie titles, there isn't a lot out there that I find refreshing. Maybe as I am getting older I am becoming harder to impress? Who knows.
All I do know is that my intent for the immediate furture is to get a console and play on that for a bit. That surprises me as well as saddens me. I think PC is a phenomenal platform, but what is the point if the developers are coding for console? It makes having a powerful PC pointless. So I am planning on getting a resonably specced laptop and a console, all being well.
