I am everywhere...
Im picking up a new ps2 tomorow (after losing my old one when my flat got burnt out :( ) and im planning on buying the following too.

God of war
Pro evo 5
Full spectrum warrior
Socom III

These are the kind of style i like and I think this should keep me going till the ps3 arrives. Is there any other game i need to consider?

Another question i have is this - im getting the slim version, do i need any additional extra to get online and play games? I already have a wireless (bethere) internet at home. Thanks.

San-andreas

A tony hawks game (personally I think 3 was the best in the series but thats my opinion)

MGS 2 I havn't played any later ones (not even sure if there are any)

FFX
Devil may Cry 3 (and 1)

My mind draws blank here, the PS2 has not had any games that have drawn my attention in a while.

You know maybe i should pick up the 360...but that will be stretching myself for now..
Maybe i should and see what the fuss is all about. The thing is i dont know what games are good as a single player and online, i wouldnt mind recommendation on the 360 as well, save me from making another thread.

If you like FPS games, COD2 is outstanding in single player. I have not tried it online because it had a poor online support when I owned it, and I wanted to try other games so I traded it in. I will be buying COD3 when it comes out on the strenth of COD2.

GRAW has an ok single player (no better or worse than most FPS games) Online it is a blast, however it is bandwidth intencive on the host. (but clients are usually fine). Unlike most online games it will not endure lag. So you either get a very smooth game (with maybe a blip or 2) or you are booted. Not a bad thing.

Halo2 (Backwards compatability), the story is ok (but it is better if you play halo1 first) but online is so unbelieveably good (imo) its like othello, takes a moment to learn but a life time to master (meaning there are so many little intracacies to improve the game) and there is still a big online gathering.

PGR3 seems to have a big following (both on and off line), I personally do not like racing games much so I have not tried it.

Condemed is not to bad a survival horror, I have only played it for about an hour or so, but I liked what I saw.

Kameo, its aimed for a younger audience, but it is a good game, worth getting on the cheep.

King Kong, only worth a rental, but worth playing through, not a bad game, just not a keeper.

Quake 4, ok, but not worth more than £15 imo. Has all the right things but badly put together imo (seems bulky and poorly coded, takes ages to load in single player and in multi player)

Games to look out for when released. Gears of war, Made by Epic it is a over the sholder 3rd shooter and it looks spectacular, from what I have seen so far.

Huxley, a MMOFPS, how this will work we shall see, cant really say more than that.

Halo3 Apparently the end of the story. Bungie produced a fantastic teaser, hope the game lives up to the hype and expectation.

COD3, if it is half as good as COD2 then it will be twice as good as most other FPS games.

Edit: BTW it is very much worth getting a Premium 360 and Live, that way you can download game demos and trailers for free, try before you buy.

look into the devil may cry, onimusha and metal gear series. all very good :), also check out shadow of the colossus and prince of persia series

Kronologic - thanks for that im gonna give it a thought.

Ojste - Out of all the three, i might add devil may cry, looks sweet. Thanks.

Game do a money back garentee and the 360 comes with a short full live trial subscription, so you could always buy the 360 and a game or 2 then see what you like in the terms of games (swaping them if you don't like them). If you don't like any of the games you tried then return everything on the 10th day.

On a slight side note now, I personally hated God of War. I recently flogged my PS2 after getting a 360 and haven't looked back.

Right now there is a far better line-up of games for the 360 than there is for PS2/PS3 in my opinion and for me, xbox live arcade really makes the system even better... superb if you have been gaming since the days of Amstrad / Spectrum and still love simple yet fun games.
