Games running very slow

So although my system isn't anything special, I've been able to run games like Dishonored and Project cars no problem.
But I've just got Metro 2033 Redux and Dishonored 2 and they are both unplayable, even the menus seem to be 1FPS if even.
I haven't changed anything on my system but I wouldn't have thought games a year or 2 on from running fine with nearly full graphics would be unplayable.
Is there anything I should be looking at to help diagnose the issue?

Thanks

Can't comment on Dishonored 2 but for Metro ensure you have the Phys X setting either turned off or at the very lowest setting (0.5 I think) - having this any higher kills the majority of cards. Metro Last Light in particular is still a very demanding game to play graphically.

Got any recording programs you might have accidentally started? (Fraps, shadowplay/plays TV or windows built in DVR?)

Can't count the amount of times I have done that without realising! :D

Check your temperature aswell to make sure nothing is throttling. Have you recently updated to windows creators update? If so look into the many issues this causes with game performance. Even desktops have to now choose high performance power plans as the low ones will nerf the system. (Stupid I know)

What GPU are you using? Metro 2033 is well-known as being a PC killer, and Dishonored 2 is only a recent release so unless your GPU is very powerful, I think you'll struggle. Have you updated the drivers?

This really. Even though Metro is getting on a bit it needed horsepower to make it move fluidly, and the redux reboot even more so. I also found Dishonored 2 to be not that well optimised, and again needed decent hardware to move it smooth and look pretty.

I've got a i7-4790k & GTX1070, and can just about manage fluid fps at 1080p with all the effects turned on. I'd hate think how much it costs to game at 4k!!

Metro 2033 used to be very demanding. I was very surprised how well the Redux edition ran on my system maxed out minus SSAA @1440p with R9 290 I was way over 60fps like 80+ almost all the time.
I honestly think the original metro was a bad PC performer.

This is very true the engine is massively more optimised on the redux games :)
