As a counterpart to the 'most disapointing games' thread, lets talk about the good ones - I'll start you off..

Secret of Money Island II
Tie Fighter
Halflife
Dune 2
System Shock 1&2
Doom
QuakeIII
Aliens Vs Predator 1&2
Unreal Tournament & UT2004
Freespace II
Battlefield2
Call of Duty 1&2
Star Trek Elite Force 1&2
Farcry
FEAR
Rome Total War
Oblivion
Tomb Raider: Aniversary
Prince of Persia Trilogy
Falcon IV

Many more... can't remember them all :)

call of juarez was a lot more enjoyable than i expected it to be, expected nothing more than flashy graphics and crap gameplay, got a lot more for my money :)

With around 2000 hours of online play logged & the fact that i still play it just about every day, i would say BF2 has exceeded my expectations.

Deus Ex for me. I bought it without reading too many reviews and I was enthralled from beginning to end.

BF2 though i wish they could make a single player campain. Very good right up till today havent got bored of it yet.

The Darkness on 360 for sure. Nobody expected that to be any good, and it's practically the best game of this gen so far.

I say Max Payne 2, awesomely awesome game :) The music, graphics, sound effects, story, all top notch.

Agree there, played Max Payne 2 having never getting round to playing Max Payne, and it was awesome far better game than I expected.

Also i'd like to add in Guild Wars, had never heard of it, someone mentioned it in passing when it first came out, gave it a go, didn't stop playing for 2years... it stole my life.

Theres loads though, its a lot harder to name all the good ones, than the bad ones.

Hitman: Blood Money - It was the first game in the series that I played and I really enjoyed it, especially the Las Vegas level.

Need for Speed Underground - Thought it'd just be a daft arcade racer with a Fast and the Furious copyright issue, but instead I found the racing providing a good adrenaline rush more so than other racers I played before then.

BF1942 - I didn't think it would provide much of a gaming experience but found myself hooked, though that was before the bugs started that seemed to continue even through to BF2142.

Counter Strike - I thought at first it would be a cheap mod of a great game but it's ended up being the game I've played the most.

Max Payne - I didn't like third-person shooters. Then I did. :o
